I suppose a few of you had catched this piece of info from MP4 nation's blog, but since nobody opened a dedicated thread, I thought it would be good to try summarizing information about this new PMP.
After what seems like a critical success gathered by its C4 high end PMP, Colorfly has apparently decided to release an entry-level model, more affordable and with the same audio-oriented spirit to quickly create a reputation for itself. The CK4 could be a C4 for the cost minded customer (AKA the cheapstake
). Here are some of the specs, as gathered on soomal.com and imp3.net :
Screen : 4.3"TFT, (touchscreen technology ?)
CPU : C4V, same as C4.
DAC : CS4398, same as C4.
Amp : same as C4, or downgraded version C4-R.
Opamp : ADA4075-2, but possibility for difference on a lower priced version.
Miscellanea : Dedicated 3,5" Line Out and Headphone Out, 24/192 support, TF Card (MicroSD) support, physical buttons (On/Off, Volume +/-, Hold switch), 16Gb or 8Gb storage.
There is a doubt on Jitter reduction capability. The CK4 was initially presented as sporting the same jitter reduction as the C4 (less than 5ps), but the 8Gb model on sale at Taobao is listing a jitter reduction of less than 100ps. This could be the indication of the lower model, with C4-R downgraded amp.
Filetype support : Audio - WAV, FLAC, APE, MP3, MP2, WMA, OGG, AAC.
Video - RM, RMVB, MP4, AVI, FLV, MPE, MPG, DAT, WMV, ASF, 3GP, MOV, VID, VOB, MKV.
Release date : February 27th in China, available on Taobao from March 2nd
Date unknown for export.
Intro price : 8Gb model is sold for 800RMB (120$US) on Taobao as of March 2nd
16Gb model price still unknown.
Obviously we can not expect this player to feature all the fancy electronics included with his bigger brother, however dropping the luxurious wood to replace it with aluminium + plastic will help getting a lighter and cheaper PMP. The internal components are also very accessible, hinting at a possibility for battery change and mods, however I wouldn't hold my breath over a capacitive screen given the price, but that would be just great.
It seems that Colorfly is going to introduce 2 different models, one with emphasis on the audio while the other will be aimed at the mass market. The difference being made on the amp chip (OP-Amp chip maybe, sorry the google translation isn't very good).

, still a few japanese reviewers are quite happy with the player itself, putting it on par with the HM801 they also own.
Well, the build looks great if they all actually look like that in production form. I'll reserve judgement till some trusted ears hear it. I will say if the same shills come into Headfi and try to hype this thing like they did w/ the C4 this thing will fade from my memory faster than the Kardasians. The C4 was marketed w/ the biggest BS I've ever seen in a DAP. Hope this thing works out and actually makes nice w/ IEMs. Competition is always good. Cheers. It appears to have LO this time, kudos.
