Hello!
Been lurking around the site for a few years, and have made what has turned out to be several good decisions based on it's threads - thank you all head-fi'ers!
I could use some help as I'm interested in buying my first amp, mainly for my newly accuired HD580, but also for future purchases. I know the question of mixers as amps have been asked many times before, but the general reply seems to be that it varies a lot between different brands and models. I'm wondering if anyone has anything to tell me about the 01v in this regard (that is, the old 24ch one, not the 01v96). I might get the opportunity to buy one at a very reasonable price - maybe twice the amount that a decent low-entry headphone amp would cost (in sweden that is - it's a small market and quite expensive here). I have not been able to find out what parts the 01v uses for it's headphone output.
I obviously have other reasons to potentially buy a mixer than just using it as an amp, but if the amp is decent and could substitute a low-end dedicated headphone amp, then it would be all the more reason for me to buy it.
In the long run I might be better off buying a dedicated amp, but since there are few places in sweden to try out and compare headphones and amps, and I'm quite new to audiophilia, I'm not so sure I would be able to appreciate what I ended up with.
So, does anyone have an opinion?
