In fact, the different of Line out and headphone out is depend on the load,

Headphone out is design to drive some low impedance loader, and Line out is design to drive some high impedance loader.  a good headphone out may be far more better than a bad line out.

Even double amp could have better sound quality , of course, all depend on science. for example

There are one DAP call A, which have headphone out and line out, and the distortion of the HP is 0.01% at 10k loader and 0.1 at 32 ohms, this is the common result of a amp ( not matter it is line amplifier  or power ampliifer ), and the line out is 0.001% at 10k loader

There are one headphone amp call B, which input impedance is 10k, and the distortion is 0.01 % from power out at 32 ohms.

So,

the distortion of  A is  0.1% from headphone out.

the distortion of  A+B by connect the HO to B, will be closed to 0.02%.

the distortion of A+B by connect the LO to B, will be closed to 0.015%

So, the best will be use line out to connect a audio source to amp, but you still get better SQ by connect a amp to a audio source by headphone out.

Feio, thanks for the attempt to explain it, but I'm afraid the combination of the technical language and the fact that English is clearly not your first language has left me confused.

Perhaps you could explain it in terms of the products I'm considering or using. In other words, I'd like a comparison of the E7 headphone output vs. the line-out output (via the L7). My headphones are the Denon AH-D1100 (32 ohms). My speakers are Boston Acoustics MM220 powered computer speakers. My player is iTunes on an old Dell desktop computer. The reason I no longer want to attach my computer speakers to the soundcard output of my computer is that the signal includes lots of digital noise (even though the soundcard is/was decent ).

Thanks.

I also have a high-quality stereo system in another room that includes a Marantz CD player, a Classe CAP-80 integrated amp, and unpowered PSB speakers (6 ohms), but my computer is not currently attached to that system. To the extent I play non-CD music on that stereo, I just attach my iPod. I WOULD like to try the headphone-amp part of the E7 using the analog line-out of my integrated amp, but I have no need to send any signal from the E7 to my integrated amplifier.

Thanks.

How do I delete a post???
I can't seem to delete the incomplete post I left, and when I try to edit it (as I'm trying to do now), it just adds a new post. WTF? Also, I get an error message when I try to preview a post before submitting it. Could someone explain this to me?

In any case, if you see two similar responses to Feiao's last post, my intention was to post the second (and longer) response only.

yes, maybe I should back to school to enhance my poor English, and I am trying to find someone to help me but unfortunately he/she is lack of knowledge of products and technology.

Anyway, please just correct my mistake so I can learn more from you, for example, now I know it is not right to use too many " ! " but not ". " . LoL.

First, I'm assuming it's possible (if not preferred) to use the headphone output.

Yes, you can.

Can you (or anyone) comment on this? I guess this thread would not exist if the results were very good, but are they at least acceptable?

It is good enough for most active speakers, unless you are using some professional monitor speakers.

Is there no way to temporarily make the output level "fixed"?

Not.

If not, do you just turn the volume all or most of the way down? One advantage of using the headphone jack, I'd think, would be that you could use the bass boost functions with your speakers. In my case, that would actually be useful, as I have no tone controls on my speakers (and my computer soundcard eq would presumably be useless). Am I right in thinking that a "true" line-out would be independent of the tone controls as well as the volume?

There are not any standard for it. the line out of  sony walkman, can be control by the EQ. but iPod/iPhone‘ line out is independent from the EQ. so who is right, I don't know, but I know lots of people ask we add the EQ in the line out when we develop new DAC. I think

we will follow what every our customer need.

Regardless, I'd still like the OPTION of a true line-out. I see a photo of an L7 dock ("currently unavailable") on Amazon. Is that the one you were working on and then scrapped, or the one you are about to release?

Yes, it is our line out kits for E7, and it is launch market now, but it take time to arrive USA and UK . LOL, we send it before april fool's day. so it is not a joke

In any case, when and where in the world can I find the new L7 dock?? Thanks.

currently only UAS in UK, MICCA in USA will have L7 soon.

hope this will help you but I found there are too many question in your post. :)

Just ordered myself a L& as well, hoping to feed my HifiMan EF2A with the E7...

Just need to find a high quality way of getting the feed from the E7 into the EF2A now

Arrived today, currently checking it out driving my Altec Lansing ADA885 THX certified PC speakers from my Mac, seem's a lot better than using the headphone output (used SPL meter to calibrate the output volume wise).

Definition is better and so is the soundstage, will have a better idea on Monday when I use the E7 DAC to drive my Hifiman EF2A.

OK had the opportunity to test the E7 / L7 now hooked up to my Hifiman EF2A headphone amplifier, the difference between the internal EF2A DAC and the E7 is chalk and cheese... The E7 blows it out of the water...

Question though, I not so sure when the E7 is connected to USB via the L7 it gets charged?

The battery indicator is currently at one bar here.

Amazon finally found our shipment!

The L9 and L7 are now available on Amazon.com

Its really nice to have direct contact to a manufacturer!

I have a two questions:

1. Does the adaptor use the i/v stage integrated into the DAC or a discrete conversion circuit?

2. When do the german resellers deliver the adaptor? Unfortunately it isn't even listed yet here, so I'm considering to import it from UK.

Thanks!
