They are both good all-arounder with different focus. RE400 is on the warmer side and has an excellent mid density for vocal and texture (plus a good bass to support it), but it doesn't have a lot of sparkles and upper detail for analytical listener. FXD80 on the other hand has good soundstage, crispy detail and harder hitting bass, but a milder U-shaped sound pulls the vocal further away. However, it is not away enough for vocal to lose all its sweetness. I would think FXD80 is the kind of sound that would wow a person at first while RE400 is that kind of sound that tends to grow on a person on the long run. For that, I would think RE400 has a more versatile sound, but FXD80 isn't bad either.

RE400 is officially released during CES 2013 a few days ago, so I doubt you will find it elsewhere beside Head-Direct. Just pre-order it and it should be shipped out in the next few days.

Yes, I do have a RE400 review sample. Both are fantastic IEM for the price, but FXD80 @ $59 might be a better bang for the bucks. As I have said before, I don't see vocal as the most important bit in anime music and jPop in general, so I'll recommend FXD80 over RE400 for these genre. For English music, I'll recommend RE400 first.

Final Audio Design Adagio V added.

Balanced-12. Final Audio Design Adagio V (link)
Mild U-shaped sound that is bright, piecing and gainy. Though gently roll-off under 100Hz, bass still reaches down deep to almost 20Hz. Lower mid seems a little hollow and give the impression of a V-shaped sound, while upper mid, noticeably on the 6kHz to 7kHz region has a big spike that adds a lot of sibilance and graininess into the music. Treble extends well up to the top, decently detailed but nothing spectacular as most detail is constantly overshadowed by sibilance. Above average soundstage due to the laid back presentation, particularly on lower mid.
Pro: None.
Con: Extreme sibilance.

The are the same thing, just wired differently in the plug. You need the MH1C as it is the one that is compatible to Clip+.
Hey ClieOS, I'm looking to purchase a new IEM now. Got the MH1C and although i enjoy the sound, i found it a bit muddy and the left earbud keeps falling out.
I'm looking for a something balance/analytical and warm, true to the sound the music was produced. Based on the reviews, RE-400 seems like a good choice. What do you recommend? Budget around the RE-400.

RE-400 is an excellent all-arounder, its strength is in its mid and bass with class leading texture, richness and detail. However, treble, while complimenst the mid and bass very well, is not as stand out as a real analytical IEM like RE0 or RE272. It is one of the best $100 out there, but it is not the most accurate around. It is more like a balance between musicality and accuracy. In fact, it is close to what I'll refer as being stage monitor tuned.
