That's awesome to know! Thank you, it answered the only question I had left for HD 598 hehe

I'm mainly interested in these: Open, great soundstage, great vocals and good for slow ballads. From what I read, HD 598 fits the bill except I haven't found much info about its performance on slow ballads.
You'll get exactly that from the HD598. happy listening!

I have a V-Moda M100 to take care of my fav genres, but I also love ballads/acoustic versions of songs and was hoping 598 could fill that out.

Driven with a nice amp (depending on your source you might not even need one) - you might get your fair share of goose bumps listening to your favorite songs for the first time with this headphone.

Happened to me plenty of times. Vocals just sound sublime with this headphone.

Completely agree.

Well guys, I've decided I like the 598's so much I'm going to purchase the senn g4me zero, which is a closed gaming headset based off the hd598. Not sure how long they'll take to get, but if they are even half as good sounding as the 598 I'll be happy :). Really psyched they're closed too.

Hi guys new blood here!

After a bunch of budget broken or barely working headsets I decided I'm going to lay down some money for decent headset but after doing some reading including some of this thread. I decided to go with headphones and I'm currently set on .. you guessed it hd 598 :) The only thing still holding me back is the cracking problem. I know it has been said that the problem was fixed but I would be much more assured if I could hear some thoughts from current hd 598 owners.

The cracking problem has been fixed a long time ago already for about several years since the problem was only first batch and as long as you don't get a very old second hand unit (or a very old demo unit) but buy from a proper reseller (like amazon?) you should be good :)

I echo streetdragon. The early models were the ones that cracked: Sennheiser fixed that with a design change. I've had mine, bought AFTER the crack and Sennheiser's fix, and have had them for 30 months without cracking.

Buy them... You will be Delighted!

This makes me giggle like a little girl! I'll probably hit the local store tomorrow price tag is 200€ and that is just 5€ more then the cheapest online retailer in EU I found so far.

I've had mine for a few months now, and they haven't cracked. That problem was fixed a while back. smily_headphones1.gif

Amazon.de / .it / .fr typically sells them for around 160 EUR, could be worth checking out.

So got my 598s and they distort at high volumes , at around 150hz and the left driver seems to get worse as it gradually rolls off , its at high volumes but with songs mastered with more bass its apparent at medium volumes , for example "You Got Me" by The Roots , what a  downer

Has anyone had theirs long enough to comment on the colorfastness of the plastic?

What I mean is that sometimes with cream colored plastic, the material will start developing a darkening/discoloration/patina. I think this is caused by UV light exposure, ie., sunlight or artificial light with UV content. The color starts moving towards a more brownish/dingy color on the surface.

I'm not sure if that's happening with mine or not. It might be my imagination. But they look a little dingier/off-color than I recall them looking when I first got them.

Any experience one way or the other with this?

I had mine for over a year and even wore them outside occasionally and didn't have that issues...

Has been fixed many years ago. Mine is now 3 years old and no cracking. As good as on the first day.

Cheers,
K
