Rockbox Highres and File Management

Hi all,

I have only just found out about Rockbox, had a Cowan X5 lying around and got this installed. Next I copied my high res flac file to the player and listening to this now.

The music if now fantastic. Clinical, cold but the noise floor (High res) and clarity is maddning. The sound is now mor audiophilic to say the least.

 

My question is that the file management leaves a lot to be desired and I suppose the X5 hardware does not help either. Is ther any magic filemanagement for Rockbox somewhere?

 

Are there any other open source firmware similar to Rockbox. Thanks.

I think that Rockbox is the only open source firmware there is. It gives you a lot of options regarding customization, so it can be a bit confusing in the beginning. I've got an iRiver H120 and a Toshiba Gigabeat F20 that are rockboxed. At first I could not get the database function working, could not get album art to display on the Gigabeat and I had no idea of how to get playlists working. After looking around on the internet, I found solutions for the album art and playlist problem. The database update problem solved itself.

 

What sort of file management do you need? You just drag and drop the music you want on your X5. Everything else can be fixed - stuff such as album art, ID3-tagging and playlists. Perhaps not everything with the same software, á la iTunes, but there is other free software that works great.

Thanks for the reply.

You are right the interface is very extensive and potentially manipulative to your satisfaction?? I am still to work this out. The issue for me is that this could perhaps be simpler, say a la ipod. On the same issue, I did not like the iCowan's interface either. 

 

I will try this further as I want to make the Rockbox work...
