The EMU 0404 USB has a line level out attenuator.  I have to cut the line level by half just to get the Asgard to 9 o'clock.  I can't imagine getting the dial anywhere close to 3 o'clock on any amp I've ever tried.  There wasn't a setup at the meet that I tried where I needed the volume past 10 o'clock.

I understand. But like as BebopMcJiggy said the uDac was turned way down so he probably compensated with the Asgard, thus the humming. 

Another HP I'm really surprised we didn't see was the K701 (702).

I just looked on amazon - I had no idea the hd650's were almost $500 - I thought they were a $300 HP.  That's quite a jump from their next lower set.  Plus, I've read at least a 1/2 dozen comments on here to people who were considering HD595/598's to 'just get the 600/650'.  How is that good advice when it's over 3x more then what the personally originally said they were interested in?  I have learned enough though that I'm very interesting in comparing the Hd600s to the 650's.

I just learned that I have another month to wait to get my grado's back from being mod-ed so I was wondering if I could 'barrow' a set from Amazon but I think I'll just wait.

Anyone remember which beyer dynamics Peter had with him (I know they were 250ohm but dont know the model).

I had the K702's but I traded them for the SM3's. 

The HD650s are not a $500 can, IMO. They can be found around here easily under $300. $500 for such a headphone is ridiculous. They are good and scale well but you can do better for the price. 

I was very impressed with those Beyers considering they don't get much attention around here anymore.

Another HP I was looking forward to was armandhammer's 325's.

and I agree - I loved the 650's but I wouldn't pay $500 for them.

So I actually broke the headband on my 650, you couldn't see because I had the cheap cover over it but it's all epoxied together in the middle with some cut up hair pins.  Actually I think there's a good chance it is sturdier now than it ever was before.  When I bought the 650 they were $299 new... in Dec 2006.  A new headband would have cost something like $180 if I recall correctly.

I am so sorry I missed this meet guys! I have been having some health issues and I ended up spending Sunday and Monday at Georgetown Hospital........ I wanted to be there so badly, it broke my heart! I hope we can get another meet together this year, nothing short of a heart attack will keep me away!

Heh, I paid like $465 from Amazon. For me, Amazon is the most reliable place I can buy things from and I wanted assured next day delivery. Was worth it to me. I bought the Silver Dragon cable and it should arrive today. I can't wait to check it out with the 650's again. I also purchased the silver dragon for Ultimate Ears customs. I'm curious to see how that improves the sound. To me, I can't imagine the UE-11's getting any better than they already are.

Finally got around to posting.

I had a great time and really appreciated the opportunity to try several balanced HPs.  I got to spend quite some time with the HD650s and LCD2s and damn those LCD2c are fantastic.  Compared to the DT880-250, the bass was deeper and tighter.  The highs were detailed however they sounded significantly smoother and more balanced.  Very, very nice.

So what was the verdict?  I actually broke down and bought some HD650s myself.  Though I finally got my grados back yesterday so now I have to decide what I'm going to do with the 2 extra sets of phones I bought to make up for their lost.  When I got the 650's I was thinking 'oh, I might like these better anyway' but now that I have my 325s again - nope.

Hey guys, I want to plan another one either before or during summer. When is good for you guys?

Also, my Stax SR404 came in so I will actually have something interesting this time not some dumb old IEM. XD

I would love to make it to this one. I should be pretty available other than the first weekend in May and first weekend in June. I would also really like to hear some Stax to see if they live up to the claims. What are you amping them with?
