Upgrading from Essence STX > Yulong D100?

I've been enjoying my Essence STX for a good 2 years now and have acquired some nice headphones and an amp to go along with it in the meantime. Even though I'm enjoying my current setup a lot, I'm curious what improvement there is to gain in the DAC section.

 

I want to upgrade from my Essence STX to a dedicated DAC, preferably under 500 USD. From reading the forums it seems the Yulong D100 offers great sound at around $450 and should be a noticeable improvement from the Essence, am I right?

 

Are there any better DACs out there that beat the Yulong D100 in price/performance for under $500?

BTW, how do you guys think the Audio-GD NFB-3 would fare against the Yulong? The specs seem pretty good and it's only $300.
