Foobar help please:

1) Basically, whenever I play a CD via FB2k it always mutes for some reason, always from track2track and now and again randomly? It’s really annoying me because I’ve tried everything I can do. Any ideas how to fix this will be brilliant.

2) Has anyone used the ‘Dolby Headphone Wrapper’ component? Any good? Is it worth a DL? Dose it actually work?

Thanks very much :)

Hm as I am from the field of process measurement :) I have to ask if this happens also when you are playing another fileformat (Without a proof, I think that you are using digital files when saying playing a CD??)?

You can also try to reinstall foobar and or using the latest beta version.

Concerninng the DSP's I cannot help because I avoid all this stuff :))

Have you got any plug-ins for a simulated surround sound installed? May sound random but there is a trail of thought that way. Also has it always done that, have you changed anything lately etc. In my experience when something like this happens it's usually caused by some components conflicting if it's a foobar based problem.

Check the spectrogram (View>Visualizations), does it go all blank too when it happens?

And try disabling every DSP you might be using.

No SSS plug-ins yet mate, which would you recommend?

Yeah ever since I DL'd it around 3 week ago really, plus the other 2 installations on top. Just seems to be much more noticeable latly for some reason. No relevent changes. I even picked one of my friends brains who works as a sound engineer about it - and he doesn't know either (was over the phone though). The only other thing I can pin-point it on is the CD player? 5 year old now so it could be this? From a Super Speed Master to a Super Slouch Master maybe??? Can't see it being any other components either really. Wi-fi? Wireless Keyboard and Mouse?????

Cheers :)

Good idea but the spectrogram doesn't go blank just stuttering in tamdem with the mute - no signs of muting with a clear section on the spectrogram if that makes sense?

Already done this with the DSP mate - no joy though.

Since doing the post it's actually muted 5 times now :(

Graças :)

Thanks very much for all your help anyway guys :)

Anymore help will be more than welcome ;)

Hmm possibly, think I'll buy a new player and hope for the best. Could do with a new one anyway :)

Actually I mean to replace foobar by another player firstly :) to try if it is a foobar problem..

One more thought before replacing the drive, if it is a drive that's that old maybe the driver for it isn't included with whichever version of windows you have. That should be easy to check on if you know the model. Other than that try media player/itunes etc, see if that helps.

In this case, I'm fairly sure it's NOT a problem with your drive. Or else foobar would be receiving the muted sound and it would clearly show in the spectrogram.

Is your sound driver up-to-date? Does it happen on other players (Windows Media Player, Winamp...)?

Ahh sorry mate :) I'm absolutely convinced the problem is foobar related after all this info now.

Couldn't go back to any other player even if I wanted to, to be honest lol :)

Win7 - I'll look into it by tonight and I think you're spot on btw mate...

Good stuff - not sure my founds could cover the price of a new driver anyway.

I'll look into the sound drivers later on - and update whether it's a winner?

Windows Media Player runs very smooth, same with MP Classic.

I'll check the SD when I get back in later and update.

Thanks again guys - much appreciated :)

Try increasing the foobar2000 buffer length (Preferences>Playback>Output).

^That's a good point, if it's jumping in and out of mute that could easily be the problem.

All the drivers are up to date, so it isn't this either? Sorry for the delay. I've no idea what's wrong with it now?

Good call Vitor but there isn't an option button for Output on screen? ........ all it says > > >

Click on that little triangle by the left side of "Playback".

I'd try doubling the value. You probably have it set to 1000ms, so try 2000ms. wink.gif

EDIT: Btw, are you sure you need those Preamp values? Your songs might clip... I'd recommend setting both these values to 0.0.
