Well, it may sound foolish , but i have zero knowledge about various music genres. Can someone provide links to some various genres like pop, jazz, country classic etc.

You can also mention name of song and type of genre.

Thanks in advance

You have to realise that you're asking a ridiculously broad question but i'll have a go with some youtube clips:

Whichever ones I find, it won't be exhaustive:

Pop:

Turn on the Radio

Jazz:

Country Classic:

What country are you in?

Hip-Hop:

Acid Jazz:

Breaks:

Prog Rock:

Indie:

Metal:

Big thread on that one, not my scene really

Drum 'n' Bass:

Folk:

There are hundreds more and each one is subject to quite a bit of crossing/interpretation. Have you got spotify? It's a good place to start (or pandora is more or less the same thing)

Also, this thread should be in the Music forum.

What do you define as popular? The only genre's you've asked for is Pop (where are you in the world? but it's a good bet you can look up Justin Beiber), Jazz (included a very successful modern Jazz Pianist) and country classic (which isn't a genre as far as i'm concerned). This is why at the top of my post I said:

I've gotten a lot of education on music genres and various artists at AllMusic. That plus youtube should be quite helpful in tellink viking metal from bluegrass.

Here's a short list with descriptions, I think it will help.
