Suggestions for first pair of custom iem

Hi. After trying a few of the medium to high end iem earphones I'm thinking of taking the big step into customs.

Since there seem to be a few options I'm chasing some suggestions from the users of this forum who are owners or have experience on customs.

At the moment I'm using a pair of ATH-CK100 on a Cowon X7 and I'm happy with the sound (I moved from the W3) except that I give it a bit more bass through the EQ. Ideally that's the sound signature I'd like to achieve.

For a custom fit with the best isolation and comfort, plus a balanced, neutral sound signature augmented by a strong bass response, my recommendation is the Sensaphonics 3MAX.

Having never heard the CK100, I can't comment on what that is like, but there are several very good customs out there, as well as several reviews of customs.  Shigzeo has a lot of experience with both customs and the CK100, and I believe joker has heard the CK100 in addition to owning the 1964-T and he has the UM Miracle on the the way.  

 

There are also some Sensaphonics reviews on here, but I haven't seen a Sensaphonics owner comment lately (other than the representative, JackKontney)...

 

I did see a UM Mage in the FS forum a while back in Australia, which could be a great pickup for you.  I did send them a PM, but didn't get a response, so I am not sure if they are still available.

I like sound of the CK100 as they have nice and detailed highs (even more so than the W3 hence the switch) and as I said in the OP I don't mind boosting the bass a bit through EQ. I plan to buy one pair of Customs and keep them and since they're all individual due to the shape I want to try to get the model closest to my preferred sound before forking out the money.

How about converting the CK100 into a custom?  And the hardest part about buying a custom IMO is knowing the sound signature before you get them, but there are plenty of reviews to read on here and elsewhere, such as headfonia.

Yeah, I might need to venture into some long reading!! I was thinking of exactly the same solution about the CK100. I might need to look into that too. So many threads, so little time!
