Cables/adapters for new rig? @_@

Alright, I guess I've decided on my rig.

iPod Touch 4G -> usb dock -> Cypherlabs Solo -> mini to mini -> Stepdance -> 1/4 to mini adapter -> W1000X

So, finally it boils down to cables.

I'm looking at ALO cables (adapter and mini to mini) and they're freaking expensive -___-;;;

I just need some suggestions on what brand/model to use for the 3 cables that are involved in my rig.

iPod dock to USB:

What alternative do you use, for all you guys who have the solo? How's the stock one they provide? :/

Mini-Mini:

Would you say the mini-mini cable that comes with the stepdance is adequate?

Female 1/4" to mini adapter:

The ALO adapter is a whopping $165. Any 'similar-grade' alternative that's cheaper?

-Grado ? (I'm afraid of sound degradation. All this $$$ gear and then the adapter to pwn me.)

Thanks all :)

I have the cardas adaptor and its built pretty well/sounds good.

the cardas mini to mini cable looks pretty good as well

though in my experience with cables, they dont really effect the sound too much

Seems you are new to these boards. Then it's understandable why you think you might need all these expensive cables for your setup. But a small number of us here believe that these expensive "audiophile" cables are not audibly different from normal cables. This is a DBT-free forum, so go to the sound science forum if you want to hear the arguments for/against cables. But suffice to say I don't believe ALO or any expensive cables change the sound from a properly-designed $10 cable. Look at the claims made by cable companies. Do they have any real evidence, or just testimonials? Open up your DAC and amp, and look at the cables inside. They are pretty thin and small, don't you think? If cables really make a huge difference, surely the "good" signal passed through your expensive adapters will be ruined by those "bad" wires inside your amp! Look at the wires in your headphone. My my, those are pretty small too! Even if you had solid silver wiring in your DAC and amp, surely the "bad" wire in your W1000X would make those electrons unhappy again.

My advice to you is buy the Grado adapter, use the cable you got with your Stepdance, and the cable you got with the Solo!

Yes, I do own the Grado adapter and have used it with very expensive headphones.

I am currently using Grado adapter and am happy smily_headphones1.gif I can't justify spending over 100 on a cable anyway.
