ARRGH! "Gritty" USB Sound

Thread Starter

Ok, I need some help here.

Every time I listen to music through my SoundBlaster Creative external sound card I get an audio artifact that sounds like someone poured sand into the air chamber on my Grados. I do not get this problem from any of my other sources, so what gives here? The right driver will also make a sound like the pop you get in your ears as you equalize pressure on an airplane.

Anyone have any ideas on how to correct this?

Creative cards are notorious for their problematic drivers ; the problem you describe is quite common , but it usually appears with internal soundcards ( poor PCI transfer with certain chipsets ). If you have the latest drivers for your card ( and motherboard chipset ) there nothing much to do except   buying another card ( and this time stay away from Creative products ) or give Linux a try.

P.S. you might want to give this a try before starting shopping for a new card : http://support.creative.com/kb/ShowArticle.aspx?sid=26162
