Alesis Monitor One Mk2 - Left / right channel speakers

Thread Starter

I'm new at this whole computer audio business but I've been told to get (semi)professional speakers instead of computer ones. I'm wondering if I'll need anything special to get the most out of these. I don't have an amp, sound card, etc. I'm starting new fresh here. Also open to new suggestions if this comes out to be too expensive or something.

Thanks.

I actually have those speakers sitting in my closet. They'll work just fine. You'll need an amplifier that can handle speakers that are rated 4 ohms. If you have a stereo or home-theater receiver, you can try that. Just hook it up just like any passive home speaker: Sound card or on-board audio --> receiver or amplifier --> speakers.

If you haven't bought the Monitor Ones yet, another option is a pair of powered speakers (or active monitors). The amplifiers are built in, so all you need to do is hook them up to your computer's audio interface, which can be the computer's built-in audio, a sound card, or external (USB/Firewire). The simplest way to control the volume is to use your software, but most folks who use active monitors use a separate volume control or a mixer.

Your need a good powerful amp to get the best out of them, there 120watts at 4ohms, alesis discontinued most of there power amps the alesis ra300 would power these speakers well there is also the samson servo 300 which would be a good match for these speakers.
