Im about to build my very own iPod - first up bought one on eBay were the battery is close to die and with a lot of scratches. Ordered new battery, new facia, new back, new wheel, IDE adapter and CF card and then when I wait for everything to arrive I start thinking about the sound...

The iPod is a 4G (4.5) iPod Color - the one with the great DAC, color screen and no video playback.

Im hoping to use it with a Arcam irDock dock (were the charging can be disabled) at home on my stereo set.

When I read about what else I could do, then I stumble upon something called the iMod - makes me think:

Would the iMod be a HUGE improvement taken into consideration that I lower the noise level by using CF instead of HDD, use one of the top value for money docks, going to run RockBox and play FLAC files??

I mean, is is already pretty much better than the standart iPod, so how much better can it get (for a premium extra price!)??
