Mic...on the headset or one the lose with headphones ?

Thread Starter
I`m starting having second thoughts about my headset purchase since on headsets with a mic you very often have to go down on the soundquality ( maybe not the Ultrasone HS-15 ) and I`m thinking about maybe buying a decent pair of headphones and a lose mic .

The mic could be one of those that are on the desk ( those really cheap ones ) or of that kind you strap onto your shirt or whatever .
The thing is I`ve only had a headset with a mic and I don`t know how practical it is with a lose one since I`m a gamer and I play in clanmatches and so on where things can get pretty hectic from time to time ( hehe ) .

Any gamers here that use lose mic ?

For gaming, I think that sound quality of voice will probably not be your main consideration, so I'd get a great headphone and a cheap microphone.

I do, I'll be using HD580 and a clip-on mic so I can listen to music while not playinggames.

Go to an electronics store and buy a clip-on mic. Then you can simply clip it on the headphone cord or on your collar

I've been struggling with this exact issue now for years and I have yet to reach a solution.

I simply took a crappy headset and, using my amazing skills, ripped, and scissored the headset portion off the headset, fashioned a rubber piece to kill the vibration and scotch taped the thing to my set of 770/80's.... It works like a charm actually, but it still annoys me.

I refuse to use a clip on as they never achieve the same exclusive sensitivity and since my roommate watches movies and TV whilst I play, and has a fully loaded nerf gun... I have to keep my sensitivity and voice low, and achieve that without letting my entire instance group in on his GFs arguements or currently watched television program.

My only options as I see it now is to simply tolerate my foul (and poorly done) creation, bite the bullet and get a headset with crappy audio, or spring the 300 some odd dollars on a high-end Senn, Koss, etc? headset. All of these options do not seem viable for me at the moment.

No answers, just a shout that others share your pain

I've played years of CAL-i for various games, so you know where I'm coming from.

I've always used a desktop mic, they work great, there's no issues at all with using them. Often times I've found them to be MUCH better than those mics attached to headsets, often times people are far to loud through those or they're simply crap.

I'm a huge supporter of the seperate headphone and mic idea.
