Touch 4g -> ipod dock to usb -> Solo -> mini-mini -> Stepdance -> 1/4 adapter -> W1000X vs....

So I've been lurking around and I've come up with an imaginary build. Here it is:

iPod Touch 4G + LOD -> Stepdance -> W1000X

or

Cowon J3 HO -> Stepdance -> W1000X

Need True Line Out DAP. What has true LO? o_o I'm guessing RWA imod + Ipod 5g... and? :{ and Whipmod and WhipLOD. And Ipod touch -> Cypherlabs Solo.

So it boils down to RWA iMod vs. WhipMOD vs. Touch+Solo. All are around the same price I guess.

Hmm, here's a rig I came up with just now...

ipod touch 4g -> usb dock -> solo -> mini to mini -> stepdance -> 1/4 to mini adapter (which one? ALO $165?......) -> W1000X (or LCD2? worth the wait over the w1000x?)

Will the HO's signal suffice for feeding the stepdance or any other high-tier amp for that matter? I've read up somewhere long time ago that Line out > headphone out and there's not much point in using HO -> amp. Correct me if I'm wrong ^-^

I looked into the RWA iMod with an ipod 5g but I'd rather prefer the iPod Touch's features. As for the stepdance, Skylab mentioned the stepdance matches well with the w1000x.

Now I have another question.

Would you rather go for the stepdance+W1000X(or K702/DX7000/SA5k/Pro 750) combo or the Westone ES5 unamped?

This is a rather stupid question but the point of it is to see what would be the 'preferred' setup. I know the perks of having fullsized vs. IEMs, vice versa, and I'm solely searching for the opinions of people who has both high-tier fullsize and Custom IEM and which they prefer for whatever reason, ranging from SQ/detail/clarity/bass response and soundstage to comfort and non-audiophile appreciateable-ness.

Thanks!

Alright, I guess I've decided on my rig.

iPod Touch 4G -> usb dock -> Cypherlabs Solo -> mini to mini -> Stepdance -> 1/4 to mini adapter -> W1000X or LCD2, still unsure.

So, finally it boils down to cables.

I'm looking at ALO cables (adapter and mini to mini) and they're freaking expensive -___-;;;

I just need some suggestions on what brand/model to use for the 3 cables that are involved in my rig.

USB Dock:
What alternative do you use, for all you guys who have the solo? How's the stock one they provide? :/

 - Stock from Solo
-
-

Mini-Mini:
Would you say the mini-mini cable that comes with the stepdance is adequate?

 - Stock with stepdance
 - QABLES
-

Female 1/4" to mini adapter:
The ALO adapter is a whopping $165. Any 'similar-grade' alternative that's cheaper?

 - Grado ?
 - ALO
-

Thanks all :)

K. I'm reading the J3 HO = ipod touch 4g w/ LOD.

Then would the J3's HO signal suffice when partnered with the stepdance -> w1000x?

I thought LO>HO for amps.

Well, do you really want to take the W1000x out?  I find that it has too much potential to be stolen.  But if you go that route, J3 or Ipod touch are fine.

Haha, I don't have to worry about that.

I'm refering to the J3 because my M1 sounds simliar to it and both are used with HO. As for the touch, I'm wondering if the LO will benefit me since I'm using a stepdance. Will HO affect the potential of the stepdance/w1000x? :| I'm guessing no! :D

Need your ops. I haven't had the chance, nor will I ever will, to try the 3. Whipmod vs. imod vs. touch w/ cypherlabs solo. Skylab said I need true line out to feed my stepdance for maximum performance, so the J3 and touch w/ LOD is out!

I've read too much, my brain hurts T.T so the cypherlabs solo delivers supreme quality signal thru digital/analog out. So it has a DAC in it.

So the solo will deliver signals that will exploit the stepdance to its fullest potential, correct? just like how the imod whipmod will

Ugh. I'm so confused.

So my setup would be:

ipod touch 4g -> usb dock -> solo -> mini to mini -> stepdance -> 1/4 to mini adapter (which one? ALO $165?......) -> W1000X

You can now get dynamic equalizer apps for the ipod touch too . EQu and Equalizer, there are a few threads about.

Sweet. I won't miss my DNSe 3.0 as much then :)

Need help on cables now :D posted in original post.

How does the LCD2 fare against the w1000x for vocal, piano, and classical listening? :)

mini-mini: QABLES. the ones purchasable from meier-audio.

1/4 to 1/8 adapter: Grado

ipod dock - usb: Stock ones from solo (for the long wire) so i can put my ipod in my jacket pocket, and keep the solo and stepdance elsewhere like in my bag. :P

Before you go too far down the road and start shelling out clams for your proposed rig, I'd make sure your iPod source works with the Solo.   I remember a while back, right after I got an RWA iMod iPod 5.5 from Vinni, that he informed me that the Solo only works with 6th generation iPods and above.

You may want to check with Cypher Labs, Ken or Vinnie.
