Minimal DJ/mixing set-up

I need some tips on the hardware for small scale 50 person events, and would appreciate some help. I've been thinking of the following in conjunction with my present equipment

I have:
- Compaq 620 (running either Windows XP or 7 depends which works better)
- FiiO E7 and Realtek AC'97
- AKG K 272 HD + Audio Pro Addon One monitors for practicing

What I'm going to get started with:

Hercules DJ Control MP3 E2 - 79€
The Box RA10 10" Coaxial active speakers - 268€ a pair. For starters I'm going to hook them up to the FiiO E7 with a ghetto 3.5mm to L/R mono 6.3mm cable.

1. Do I need a mixer when all I have is a digital USB DJ'ing interface, two sound cards other for speakers other for headphones, and a 3.5mm microphone going to the computer?

2. XP or 7?
Any thoughts?

The fiio E7 is not made to power speakers, i found even connecting it to my multimedia speakers there wasn't enough power, you need at least 2vrms , i'd recommend you get a udac2 that has volume controlable rca outputs, you don't really need a mixer , use your pc's built-in card for your headphones & mic , and run the speakers from a external dac.

In case you missed it, the speakers are active speakers, it'd be nothing short of asinine trying to actually "power" a ten inch woofer with a portable headphone amplifier. From what I've tested PMP's and other low power devices do work directly with active monitors and PA-speakers without a pre-amp or a mixer.

I know there active but powering them out of a week headphone amp still isn't a good idea, my edifier S730 sounded underpowered connected to the E7's headphone out it was designed for headphones not active speakers, you need something with a proper lineout that will output atleast 2vrms, also using a balanced to unbalanced cable you further loose volume ideally you should get something like the emu 404 and connect 6.3mm balanced to 6.3mm balanced.

What about running the FiiO E7 through a mixer with balanced stereo output? I don't know if that's essentially "balanced" but atleast you'd have the mixer handling the signal properly to the speakers.
