Sennheiser HD600 with a cable upgrade?

Poll Results: Is a cable upgrade just a placebo effect or does it actually improve sound quality? Is it worth the cost?

It's a placebo effect, and it's NOT worth it.

It's a placebo effect, but it's still worth it. (lol)

I have been reading about the HD600 cable upgrades and I am wondering if it is really worth it to invest in a cable that will cost almost as much as the headphones itself?

Some people say it's some placebo effect, and others say it makes a big improvement in sound quality.

I've also read that the HD600 stock cable is better than the HD650 cable while most say that the HD650 cable is a simple good upgrade from the HD600 stock cable.

I'd much rather buy another headphone than to spend the money on a cable unless it makes a world of difference.

Thanks for any input. I am really confused because there are people supporting both sides.

I'll also put up a poll so it's easier to see what's more popular.

Better to settle this (and all other empirical questions) with a proper test instead of popular opinion.  Oh I forgot, Head-Fi does not allow blind testing.  evil_smiley.gif

Haha, I wish there was a place where I can go to locally to test all these questions side by side to see for myself. But there is no such place around here. frown.gif

Here's a thread that lists 18 blind tests of audio cables.  One was successful, but using a 50ft cable which has more resistance.  Another test reported 14/20 correct responses judging a more expensive cable, which has a  0.037 probability assuming it was perfectly done (statistically significant, but not satisfying sample size criteria).  So it looks like 16/17 tests say- people cannot hear a difference and one is suggestive, but inconclusive.

Save your pennies for a dac or amp instead.  smily_headphones1.gif

p.s. I do own HD600, stock and upgraded cables and do not hear a difference.

Wow! Well that'll do it, I am not going to invest in a cable lol. Much rather buy another headphone. beyersmile.png
