Where can I find Fostex FE126?

I am building a pair of the Fostex BR speakers. I am getting a receiver so I am 99% sure I am going through with this. Problem is, I cannot find a pair of these speakers in the US. Madisound is sold out!

Also, any recommendations for a first time speaker build? I am using MDF and and deciding between attempting a gloss (insert color here) look or zebrawood veneer.

Heh, Ed is one heck of good guy, anyone dealing w/him knows this.  And his HSHs are a standout deal that, being full-range/single driver units, should especially appeal to headphone users.  But to actually supply his HSH replacement drivers to those building other speakers, well that'd be above & beyond.   Esp. if they are matched & treated ones (like the HSH replacement ones he got out to me @ same price for stock/unmatched/untreated Madisound ones).

I agree cfcubed, I wouldn’t expect Ed to hand over one of his matched drivers for near cost, like his HSH customers. But... if anybody does know where a pair of 126’s can be found if Madisound is out of stock, he surely will.

Chris,

I have sucummed to a sub.

He said he may have a few pairs of used 126e's on hand. He hasn't gotten back to me on price though. Worst case scenario, I'll get a pair of the Audio Nirvana Super 3's.

johnwmclean -  Good points WRT Ed & the drivers..   BTW I informed Ed that my HSHs were bought used & he still came through w/replacement drivers @ a good cost.  I'd blown them by having a DC-capable power amp and subsequently learning the value of delay muting/offset protection in tube preampsredface.gif  Can get around that by having a pwr up / pwr down order/process but everyone in the family would have to know & use itrolleyes.gif

And yeah, those little 4" drivers in these horns do one heck of a job nearly/mostly making a sub optional.  I consider myself a frugal kind of guy and still consider those Hornshoppe horns + his Cube "bass augmenter" a heck of a deal & don't see myself parting with them.

BTW I'd take Ed's "used" FE126s over new ones - break-in does apply to them.

Just spent 20 minutes on the phone with Ed. A very knowledgeable guy, it seems. In short he has led me away from BR and transmission fullrange speakers and to something more promising.
