This new PFE will be very hard to resist. I'll wait for some impressions to surface but I have a high confidence. I like the new look.

The two bass BA drivers in my four BA drivers 1964-Q custom IEM are vented armatures. I forget which post it is, but their is a good conversation and detailed analysis on how vented balanced armatures work on that thread. Go search for it. But yes, there are vented BAs now (not moving coils). The owner of 1964 EARS also sent me a lengthy email not so long ago explaining to me how the vented BA technology works. I'll see if I can find that email and post portions of it here on head-fi.org. He did explain that the vented BAs is what allows the bass drivers to go down so low with such accuracy and clarity.

I'll get them soon. Well, I helped tune them, so there's going to be no big surprise in their sound for me. But they sure are going to be fetching.
There are no vents on the new PFE. It's just design features. Filter sizes will be the same as before.

Any info on pricing or availability? What type of sound signature would you say they have? If you can reference some other IEMs you've heard that'd be very helpful as well

It's beefier than the single armature PFE. It might not have the same ultra-analytic signature, it's more in direction towards stuff like the SM3.
No idea about pricing.

I just love the PFE112, seriously underrated IEMs, I'm really looking forward to these.

Eddie@, Trust me there not underrated just some new stuff have came out and slightly overshadowed. They were the "it" thing on Head-fi a year or so ago.

That's what I mean though, I've listened to quite a few of those better ones over the years and every time I prefer the PFE112 - guess they are just my flavour.
I'll probably still like them more than these too but will probably get them to reward phonak for services rendered.

There might be some discrepancy for lovers of the current PFE 112. The new dual driver ones are certainly different - not a 'straight upgrade'.

I was figuring as much. If you really love a set of phones there can't really be an upgrade, just another option. Who knows though, maybe I'll prefer them. Great to see the company is moving on and adding more to the line anyway.Return HomeBack to Forum: Portable Headphones, Earphones and In-Ear Monitors- [NEWS / DISCUSSION / IMPRESSION] Phonak Audéo PFE232
