Melodic Piano

Thread Starter

Does anyone have any suggestions for melodic piano music? It's hard to describe the exact style I like, but I prefer very melodic tracks (fast or slow tempo doesn't matter). I like a lot of the Asian composers and a lot of the video game music as well. I've never really gotten into piano music heavily, but I have always enjoyed listening to it on the side. Any recommendations would be really helpful!

Herbie Hancock - The Piano

Really beautiful music. The SQ is amazing too. It was a direct-to-disc session.

If you don't mind minimalistic structures, Philip Glass' Etudes for piano, Vol. 1, Nos. 1 - 10 is absolutely fantastic.

Philip Glass - Solo Piano

Olafur Arnalds - Found Songs (though the sq is horrible)

Dustin 'O Halloran - Piano Solos / Piano Solos  vol.2

Gonzales - Solo Piano

Goldmund - Corduroy Road / The Malady of Elegance

Nils Frahm - Wintermusik / The Bells

Mostly minimalist exept for Gonzales which is easy to listen.

x2 for the O' Halloran, Glass and Goldmund's Malady which I own myself.

Just to add...

Erik Satie - Gymnopedies

Chopin -  Nocturnes

Harlod Budd - Music For 3 Pianos & La Bella Vista

Brian Eno & Harold Budd - Ambient 2 The Plateaux Of Mirror & The Pearl

Sylvain Chauveau - Des Plumes Dans La Tête & Nuage

Peter Broderick - Float

Rafael Anton Irisarri - Daydreaming

Max Richter - Blue Notebooks (tracks 2, 3, 6. & 11) If you saw the film Shutter Island track 2 is on the soundtrack. Violin instead of piano but worth a listen.

I forgot to mention Deaf Center. It's a crossbreed between modern piano and ambient, and sounds amazing.

Not to get off topic. But you must like Loscil, Fennesz and Helios?

Keith Jarrett--Koln Concert or Radiance

Bill Evans--HUGE repertoire but early 60s like Waltz with Debbie or Live at Village Vanguard

I really like Fennesz. I do have some Helios but prefer Goldmund, Helios is a bit too "full" for my tastes in this kind of music. I've never heard of Loscil so i'll go and check it out!
