DIY Power Cables suggestions

My roommate's father just went absolutely nuts on home theater equipment. B&W 803d, HTM2 center channel, 805d rears, MCintosh MC501 monoblocks, and some other outrageous things. One thing I would like to do is make some good power cables for some of the components in his system. He is in the process of trying to find a decent power conditioner. Does anyone have some suggestions of what wire, shielding, braiding, and plug ends would be best? I am having trouble locating a good source for all of these components at a fair price.

I am also looking to make some good power cables for my own future setup. I currently am awaiting an Audio-GD NFB-12 and I would like to make a power cable for it. One option I have looked into is this:

Neotech wire

Furutech FI-11(Ag)

Furutech FI-11(G) I cannot seem to find a silver version of this. Does it exist?

This looks fine and dandy to me, but it seems to be a little bit expensive. I could see $100 for a cable, but $200 is quite silly. Is there a source of cheaper parts of the same quality? Preferably the wire. It seems rather pricey. I like the connectors, but how much of their design is "pixie dust?"

This is a DIY power cable that I really like and it looks inexpensive. It is my inspiration for wanting to build my own power cables.

Are there any power connectors that allow direct soldering instead of screw terminals?

No so far from my knowledge of high-quality connectors.
Any reason why you prefer solder? Less solder joints is always better to me. Plus, soldering 16awg or 14awg wire is a real PITA.

You might check out Welborne Labs.  I built a few of these + a Gatekeeper and sounds quite good to me versus stock

no affiliation, just a customer.  Their customer service is a bit spotty, but Ron is a good guy and they try to make things right.

I recommend the belden 19364 or the Lapp Olflex Classic CY 2.5mm2 cable, for a connector i recommend the wattgate 320i or iego Silver plated.
