$100 Headphones, Grado, M50s? - Page 3

The best closed headphones I've heard for under $280 are the Bose Triport 2 at $140.  For $280, you can get better sounding closed headphones called Denon D2000.

I wouldn't really bother with headphones less than $100 unless you plan on using them in environments that can destroy them and are looking for disposables.  In that case, I recommend the Koss PortaPros at $40.  They are open backed, and have sound leakage, but it isn't very much.  They also sound a lot more clear than other headphones in their price range, especially the mids and highs, but they have muddy, loud midbass.

Not sure if you are still looking.. but the Grado's can be modded quite a bit to alter the sounds.. They are open, but personally I'd get a pair of Grado's and tweak them to my likings and then just use a pair of IEM's for library or anywhere I need something closed.. However, I don't really ever need or care about leaking sound right now. If I did I think I'd pick up a pair of Re-0's.

P.S. MS1's are a better buy if you don't plan on modding. If you are going to mod I suggest the sr-60i's.

LOL, I think he was referring to the user T.R.A.N.C.E, not the genre smily_headphones1.gif

I own Grado sr60 and ATH M-50.

I never use the Grados anymore.

I vote for the M-50:s.

have you ever done this? I've used my Grado's at the library. No one said anything. I noticed no odd stares. The whole "leaking" epidemic gets hyped way too much.

Listen to people here but use the search function and lurk. Figure out what you want in a can then bite the bullet.

I would recommend the ms1 just from personal experience. the m50 is a little more detailed but the mid range is really recessed and its obvious. Plus the ms1 is just much more fun and exciting.  Both are good in their own right for sure and are great choices but if I were to pick one or the other id go with the ms1. I use both headphones split use.plus it really bothers me when I listen to metal or any sort of acoustic music on the m50 especially after hearing it on the ms1.
