Macbook pro semi-audiophile setup advice???

I've been looking at getting a pair of AKG K272 HDs, but I heard they run much better with an amp. I've also heard that certain computers may want to consider an external sounds card. I have a 2010 Macbook Pro (13") and can't change the internal anything now... Should I look at getting an external sound card/ headphone amp? if so, any suggestions? Or is the built-in sound card good enough? I'm a wannabe audiophile at the moment. :p If I can, I want to stay under $150 for the headphone amp/sound card.

i use a mini-toslink to my dac and output to an amp. this is my main listening rig.
