Well, the galaxy s has a bigger screen and you've got to see a movie on the Super AMOLED display to see how much better it is than the ipod touch. The galaxy s has lots of codecs, so basically plays everything even 720p mkv, which is what I watch most of the time. On the other hand there are still more games for the apple products and especially the gyroscope-based games are way cooler than the same versions for android. I'm not saying there aren't enough cool games for the galaxy s - there are (especially, all the gameloft ones) but there are more for the ipod touch. But I went for the galaxy s and suggest you do the same - for about the same money you get a mobile phone with android, which I still believe to be better than the iOS (IMHO) and with a bigger screen. Also, you get a superb music player and even though you have j3, tou might find that the galaxy s ain't worse. Overall, you won't find anything better for watching videos and movies than a 4" Super Amoled screen.

Galaxy S. No contest.

Galaxy S's super AMOLED screen has really saturated colors. For games (and displaying icons on the home screen) this is OK, but for movies, it can be distracting. What should be yellow looks greenish. Also, it does not display gradations smoothly -- you can clearly see banding. Do some search online. There are quite a lot of info on this.

I have a Samsung Fascinate, and before I got it, I compared it to the Droid X quite extensively. I liked everything about the Fascinate better than the X, except for the screen. A lot of people would disagree, but trust me, super AMOLED's colors are really inaccurate, and the banding is pretty bad.

In my opinion, Retina Display is way better. I think iOS is far superior to Android, too, but that's a different discussion. I got my Fascinate for $1, so I have no complaints whatsoever, but if they were the same price, I'd get the iPhone without hesitation.

Well, I've watched a lot of movies on the galaxy s for the last 6 months and I don't think banding is anywhere near as bad as you're trying to make it. Frankly, it is noticeable only on few occasions mainly in very dark scenes and the only time I've paid attention to it was in one scene in Kick-ass nowhere else - on other scenes you won't notice it at all - and I'm talking HD videos - on lower resolution ones you can't see anything at all. And I really like the saturated colors even though that they might not be super accurate. Also the contrast of iphone 4 is just laughable compared to the galaxy s. We all know why the iphone doesn't have a super amoled screen - because samsung said they can't produce the number apple wanted and they had to revert to a higher resolution lcd and call it retina to get some attention LOL. Also, the dude is talking about the ipod touch not the iphone that cost the same as galaxy s. Even if it was the iphone I would still suggest the galaxy s coz I think it is better (but that's my opinion and I don't want to start an argument) - but compared to the ipod touch there isn't really a contest - you get a smart PHONE, you get 3G and you get a pretty good camera on top of what the ipod gives you for the same money.

That is fine but the OP is talking about the iPod Touch with its lower quality, smaller and wrong aspect ratio display.

I thought the Touch and iPhone had the same screen? My 4th-gen Touch's display is pretty darn good.

Fresh right off Apple's site;

Ipod Touch:

Display

  • 3.5-inch (diagonal) widescreen
    Multi-Touch display
  • 960-by-640-pixel resolution at 326 pixels per inch

IPhone:

Display

  • Retina display
  • 3.5-inch (diagonal) widescreen Multi-Touch display
  • 960-by-640-pixel resolution at 326 ppi
  • 800:1 contrast ratio (typical)
  • 500 cd/m2 max brightness (typical)
  • Fingerprint-resistant oleophobic coating on front and back
  • Support for display of multiple languages and characters simultaneously

just my .02c worth

i was wondering if there ae great and i mean great games for the galaxy... i may use it as a gaming device, until psp2 is cheaper and it will permit a modd.....

Yeah, ipod touch 4 also has a retina display. About great games on android you can check the videos in this channel coz these are some of the best games for android http://www.youtube.com/user/gameloftandroid

Oh, and there are some other cool games with sweet graphics that are not made by gameloft. Dungeon Defenders is running on the unreal engine and is pretty cool, for instance. Also, there are more gameloft games than you can see on their youtube channel

ok, so between them i should go with the galaxy, and not the ipod or iphone?....

If you want games, go with the iPod.  The Galaxy S actually has better hardware, but there are a lot better games on iOS than Android.  Movies, Galaxy S no contest.  Resolution isn't so important as the contrast ratio.  It's like the difference between a plasma and lcd TV-- blacks are truly black on the SAMOLED.

Music-- no contest, Galaxy S.  It has a fantastic DAC and very clean headphone out.  Open source devs have unlocked the hardware capabilities even further--you can use 128x DA oversampling, hardware anti-jitter, parametric equalizer and 3D imaging, as well as great DSP filters for recording audio.  Oh yeah, and it supports the following codecs: FLACWAVVorbisMP3AACAAC+eAAC+WMAAMR-NBAMR-WBMIDAC3XMF.  I personally think it's one of the best DAPs out right now.

so, the galaxy s is a good smartphone, if it's not used as phone?... i mean i was looking for a gaming-video-photo device, more than phone....

but for now, if it is better than psp, nintendo. and ipod.... this may be a conclusion....
