Up for sale here is the AUDIOTAILOR HEADMONITOR 1 (HM-1), the company's flagship tube amplifier. It was purchased directly from AUDIOTAILOR in December 2008.
AUDIOTAILOR's smaller amp, the JADE, was given an "enthusiastic recommendation" by SKYLAB, but the HM-1 never achieved a mass following here at HEAD-FI. That's no reflection on the HM-1's sonic abilities: it's a great sounding amp, a direct competitor of the DV3322. Having said that, it has a different character than the 3322: it's supremely natural, organic, fluid and open. This is due, in large part, to the implementation of the 6N6P, a Soviet dual triode tube. The character of the 6N6P has been described as "liquid, open, spacious, rock solid and very, very natural." This, in essence, is the HM-1.
The 6N6P is an excellent tube, but it's not widely known. I've been assured by AUDIOTAILOR that the 6N6 can be replaced by the 6DJ8/6922/ECC88/6H23P family of tubes, in fact the tube sockets on the amp are marked with those designations. It can also be replaced by the 6H30 supertubes, which would no doubt lift the amp to even greater heights. The 3x6N6Ps are complimented by 1x12AX7, so the tube rolling possibilities there are almost endless.
This amp is a production model. Condition is excellent: just a few small marks here and there. Sorry no pics at the moment but I'll post some later.
