This one http://www.head-fi.org/t/586885/new-hifiman-headphone-he-400-is-out/300#post_8045404 by PALMFISH gave me a laugh. PRaT and hamburger grease lube.... and the Stax comparison at the end hahaha

I'm just getting started. Wait until the first "proper review" comes out and folks start debating "what if's."
What if the reviewer had used NOS WW II Australian Army tubes instead of those new Mullard's.
Everybody knows the HE-400 positively sings when you use a triple-braided Peruvian-mined silver cable (twisted counter-clockwise to synchronize with the Coriolis Force of the Southern Hemisphere). More air around instruments, a deeper black background, and of course, tighter bass!
Did you know that if you remove the inner foam seal and lubricate the drivers with hamburger grease (use only South American beef, of course), you can improve the PRat, and widen the soundstage?
So how do the HE-400's compare to the Stax SR-009 with acoustic Aboriginal Speed Metal?
I can't wait!
oh man there's more than a few in this thread haha

post #3610 SCOTTIE's comment is tongue-in-cheek I checked his profile .

You think that's bad? I brought my new solos to my friend's house and we compared headphones. He had Starx or something ?? and it was like the 009 model, so they couldn't even get the James Bond number right omg . He plugged his into this big box thing which he said was an amplifier or something ?? yeah but my beats already had a built in amplifier , plus they only use two batteries instead of those boring old tube things . Plus my beats look waaaaay better than those strax or whatever , and theyre way better built . His cheapo headphones had no base , like it was all like for old people and stuff . yeah . Apparently he paid like 5 grand for his headphones , like what a ripoff . who would pay that much for something with no base ??

He had some fancy wood LCD something? who uses wood these days, antique technology, anyways, Beats Detox vs LDC somethin... the LDC is like firmer but problem is no bass, no rhythm, let me tell you Detox bass is big and powerful, MANLY SOUND. Truly Beats are top headphones, I must thank Dre for letting Monster borrow his expert ears to tune the Beats. Anyway, the LSD had all knid of parasitic sound that distracted from the message, it's like there was a veil of crap that distracts from the ESSENCE of the music. Don't know how my friend could like them so much. Trhen my friend tells me to check soundstage, left and right he says, so I check, looool, Beats is sooo much better, the guy singin' or rappin' is IN YOUR HEAD, no fancy effect, DIRECT sound, 1 more point for Beats.
Ah, I finally found the name, Odyssey LSD2, my friend should have bought Beats Quality instead, Tried to tell him but he got sort of defensive, sad really, wasting a chunk of money instead of going for REFERENCE quality.

^ Awesome!
"When I use a word," Humpty Dumpty said, in rather a scornful tone, "it means just what I choose it to mean- neither more nor less."
"The question is," said Alice, "whether you can make words mean so many different things."
"The question is," said Humpty Dumpty, "which is to be master-that's all."

Reply: My wife is hot but suffers with terrible B.O, which of the sennheiser line do you think would suit my listening needs best under these circumstances?

Serious, of course I'm serious, Beats allows to you to get in phaze with the music, with Beats you are in harmony with the music, it a honest headphone that adds nothing to the music, no frills, no overcompensation, just honest deep music and manly bass. Sounds true to life. Only Bose can dream of approaching Dre quality, none of the so called audiophile brands are worth looking at if LSD2 is the best they can offer. If you love good sound, buy Dre, it can only get better now that Monster won't be dragging Beats's quality down, no more compromise, Dre's sound is coming, it and it's gonna hit hard.

Hey, I'm in this thread
And the reaction to said post:

Oh my gawd! I couldn’t believe that this guy is actually serious..REALLY! Wow, talk about ignorance about headphone technology and sound quality. And the headphone referred to is by STAX (not starx), and the model he’s referring to is the SR-009 which succeeded the previous model, the SR-007. It has absolutely nothing to do with James Bond – these two Stax electrostatic headphones are considered to be amongst the finest headphones in the world today. The only other model that may compete with these world-class headphones is the dynamic phone by Sennheiser called the HE-90. Top-of-the-line headphones such as these require specialized amplifiers to properly drive the phones. Amps such as the BHSE, the KGSSHV, the SRM-717 for electrostatics and the HEV-90 for dynamic phones. Two batteries and a built-in amp – get serious. And it’s BASS, not BASE. If you can’t even spell it correctly, then I can understand why you prefer such a bloated, muddy over amped bass which overwhelms the total sound spectrum. The Stax SR-009 coupled with a Blue Hawaii SE amp and a decent DAC is truly the BEST you can get today in terms of sound quality and true audiophile listening. Oh, and I bet that you still listen to 64 kbps/128 kbps MP3’s. Try listening to lossless FLAC or WAV files and you’ll begin to understand what sound quality really is.
We must be dealing with yet another troll !
oh yeah I saw that... at first I thought you were serious too then I thought no way he CAN'T be. That's classic!
I'm going to have to revisit this thread when I need a good laugh.
!!!!---->"Only Bose can dream of approaching Dre quality, none of the so called audiophile brands are worth looking at if LSD2 is the best they can offer"
too funny.

I can finally contribute. My nephew asked me if I was wearing beats. Then he noticed that they were not. When he asked why since beats have the best bass, I told him that bass is like a woman's behind. ( not the exact word I used) Big and boomy is fun for a short time, but nice and tight is better is better for the long run.
Actually I'm at the age where I don't care what anyone else uses or thinks.
Granted, it's from a very old thread (2003), but while searching the For Sale section for an MDR-V6 I found this reply:
I guess if there were multiple offers, this may have helped tip the scale.
Hmm, I've never considered going exclusively solid state till now.
