any music player with 2.5" sata HDD inside ?

Dear All,

I listen to music mainly from CD and my TC Audio Konnekt 8 + DAC in the living room, but I want to listen to music more and more in the bedroom with headphone (my daughter watches cartoons in the living room :-), and when I have business trip, I want to listen to music. I have a 80GB ipod, but I fed up with the fact that I can not put all my library into it and I have to keep changing what I want to listen now. I have everithing in flac.

I'm looking for a player with a large hdd, it would be nice with 500GB sata 2.5' HDD, with decent DAC and headphone amp. If it would have digital audio out, that whould also be great, so I can make a good dac+amp to that.

My dream music player would be : 2.5" based, can run on battery for a few hours, has digital audio out for my tube dac+headamp, but has decent dac + amp built in also in case I do not carry just the player and a headphone. It would have a mono lcd (impossible nowdays) to select the album/song, display the time etc.

I know it does not exist, but do you know anything near ?

Thanks,

JG

I hope someone can point one out because I'd love this.  Actually I'd love a 2TB player, but I don't see that happening soon.  I wouldn't even care if it ran on a battery.

I wonder what the largest capacity hard drive that can be put in a netbook?

Edit:  To replace the hard drive in my netbook, you have to remove the keyboard, wifi card, sound card, and motherboard.  What a pain.

The Archos 7 and a few other Archos media players contain 2.5" inch sata hard-drives

but I have read that they are not regarded as having the best sound quality.

You can put a 240GB hard drive in your Ipod classic. Have you Rockboxed it yet? That makes players better and there may be a mono theme.

It doesn't make the player better for me.  It eliminates functionality I use every day.

Edit:  Plus looking at the Rockbox site, it doesn't even exist for the iPod Classic

I think the 240GB drive can only go in the 5G/5.5G Video....I think it's too thick for the newer Classic model. And Rockbox is being worked on for the Classic, but it's still a work in progress.....
