Hey Grado lovers! Want to do a mod that will set your Grados apart from the crowd? Here's an easy one. Replace the mesh/screen on the outer side of the 'phones with this larger mesh screen. These should fit in any Grado, SR60 through SR325, and likely others. They are 2" in diameter.
Sweet!
These are stainless steel, just like the originals on my -225s, but with (obviously) larger spaces in the mesh. My opinion is that the sound is a bit more open, like sitting in a bit bigger room. I'm probably deluding myself, but life is subjective. And subjectively, I like the look. I bowed the screen out some, I like the dome look, but you can leave them flat, too.
These are unpainted, laser cut, (not stamped) and ready to pop in, in place of the originals. Getting your headphones apart is your job, there are many posts on this forum and on the internet at large about taking them apart. I won't be responsible for any damage you do, mine were stubborn about coming apart, but I got them in the end.
If you don't like the look of the unpainted steel, by all means, get yourself some paint and cover it up before installation. Use a funky color if you want, that's up to you. Use a hot glue gun and put the model button back on, if you like.
I have 30 1 pair of these left. I'm not going to get anymore in the near future, most likely not at all. This was a "happy accident".
I'm selling these for $10/pair, shipped via USPS first class mail. Obviously, this limits distribution somewhat, but if you want to buy some, and USPS first class won't work for you, I'll try to work it out with you. I have mailed one pair to UK and several to Canada, and they arrived OK.
Now for the cool part. Cooler than modded Grados, you ask? Yes. Cooler than that.
I'm going to donate Although I have not sold them all, I have already donated 10% of gross receipts to Shriners Hospitals for Children, specifically, the one in Minneapolis/St.Paul. It is near and dear to my heart, as my youngest goes there for surgeries, therapy, equipment, etc. This is a truly wonderful organization, and I strongly urge everyone, next time you see a guy wearing a red fez, shake his hand and thank him for my son, and all the other kids they help. Keep in mind, all the services they provide are absolutely free to the patient and family. And they provide transportation to and from the hospital, as there are only 22 of them in the country, and some are dedicated to one specialty or another, so it can be a long trip.
(30pairs x $10) x 0.1 = $30 to Shriners Hospitals for Children in Minneapolis/St. Paul. No, it's not a huge amount, but every little bit helps. I have posted the receipt for the donation.
So, PM your Paypal e-mail address if you're interested in these. First come, first served, when they're gone, they're gone. That's all, no more.
For anyone who is concerned, I spoke personally with Jude, and he has given the OK for this one-time deal. If you still are concerned, by all means, ask him or another mod about it. I offered the 10% to Head-Fi first, but he declined, and suggested I pick a charity. So here we are.
And I do have some archived feedback as well as the current, check the thread in the archive.
