Roll Call: Who Still Uses A PCDP? - Page 2

On my DAPs, I almost exclusively listen on random rotation of songs.  But when I get a new CD, I pop it in my old Sony for a full listen until I'm ready to copy it to my DAP.  My Sony CD + T3 amp is a full sonic feast that I don't quite get with either of my DAPs.

Just purchased an old-school D 33 not too long ago and couldn't be happier, although I haven't tried the line-out yet! PCDP's will always hold a special place in my heart. Back in HS, my Sony PCDP was like my comrade - we were inseparable. lol Good times.

Anyway while we're on the subject, the issue of course with my D 33 is that I can't move it without it skipping. Can someone recommend a good PCDP (with good HP out and good lineout - 1st priority is SQ) that I can take on the go?

Try locating and get your hands on a D-303 or D-311 as they both have good lineout and decent HP out. If you don't want to spend that much for the two mentioned PCDP, try go for a D-321 which is cheaper and has a good SQ.

Just realized which pcdp's you recommended; since they're vintage they skip easily, no? I was thinking about getting a less vintage one with anti-shock but that has very good SQ from the line-out and and HP out. If you or anyone has any more suggestions, I'll appreciate them. :)

Nice!...PCDP love in the house guys......beerchug.gif

I usually use mine stationary but the D-1XX series seems to perform very good from head-out and line-out.

I like them:

D-121, 131, 141, 151, 171, 173

If you're looking for newer vintage PCDPs with anti shock and good sounding lineout/HP out, try locating a D-E905, D-E900, D-777, D-465 or the D-321. All of the mentioned models have anti shock feature.

This one is vintage, anti-shock, water-resistant, in excellent condition, and works perfectly. PM me with a fair offer and it's yours bigsmile_face.gif

Thank you so much for the recommendations warubozu. I'll definitely be on the look-out for one of them. :)

Haha nice! Grokit how does this pcdp compare to the pcdps with antishock mentioned above when it comes to SQ? I'll definitely keep your offer in mind and will probably end up pm-ing you one of these days. It's just that I bought an imod not too long ago, and just last night a mustang to go along with it. Suffice to say... I am quite BROKE. haha. But once I have some cash I may just end up throwing it your way if the pcdp is still available. cool.gif

I have no idea how this compares to more modern units. It features a "multi-stage noise-shaping technology" that they call MASH which means enhanced audio quality (via delta-sigma modulation), and the anti-shock memory buffer is defeatable to conserve battery life. There is also defeatable XBS bass enhancement, but unfortunately no line out, just a headphone port edit: and has a line-out as well. They seem to still be selling through an Amazon Marketplace Seller.

Hmmm...that SW202 looks almost identical to my slightly newer SW405 that I still use. Mine has a line-out in the back, under the gasket that also covers the power cable port.

Thanks, I had thought I remembered that it had a line out but that was the only place I didn't check. I does indeed have one, post corrected!

If my D-33 could work with a power adaptor it would become my main source in time. Still, it is an impressive device which besides its sound quality and good headphone out really is economical with batteries. When needed, the D-33 comes with me...
