Most ear simulators are only accurate to 10 kHz from what I recall, and that's where a lot of the spikes are in the frequency response per se. Valleys in the 4-8 kHz range are usually not so great, but a spike in the frequency response at 9-10 kHz have been used in some HRTF models.
