No I am not sure exactly what the specs are on the switches, but all of them err on the subtle side which is nice. Except for the gain switch, it's a pretty good boost, but i have never found a use for it because its pretty powerful as-is.

1. The shirt clip snaps on the resistor barrel, yes?  I haven't wanted to force it on until I got confirmation of this.

YES

2. The little carry pouch provided seems too small!  Is there a trick to getting things to fit quickly and easily?  Or is there another popular, readily available container or case people use for the ER-4S's.

I wrap the cord around a few of my fingers and stick the tips in the little pouch. I can't really recommend a case as there is just to many variables for personal preference.

My apologies if these have been answered many times before.  I am planning on reading this whole thread over the coming weeks, but right now, I have only read the beginning few pages and the last ones since I posted and a half dozen prior to that.  Thanks in advance!

Glad you really enjoy them! At first you threw me off thinking "oh gosh, a Beats convert" lol, but that changed quickly :P

+1 to all of this! Just wrap the cable a bunch of times to fit it in the case.

FYI: for anyone who wants to purchase the red filters from Etymotic:

The red filters found on the Etymotic earphones accessory pages are NOT the same red filters that are being used in the ER4.

The correct red filters are the ones found on the page for the BEAN Quiet Sound Amplifier, made by Etymotic, as discussed in an email I received from them:

Hi,

Here is link to the accessory page for the BEAN Quiet Sound Amplifier on our website.  That is where you will find the ER38-50BN red filters:

Thank you.

I think the DX50 is the best deal by far when it comes to DAPs.  I am completely happy with the purchase.  I play ONLY 24bit/96 or 192 kHz files on the DX50, and I have been playing exclusively hi-res files on my home system since 2010, so I know how great the difference between 16 and 24 bit can be with the right DAC and implementation.

The DX50 nails it.  The most common comment from DX100 (which is considered by many to be the best DAP regardless of price) users is that the DX50 plus the Tralucent T1 amp pretty much equals the DX100, but with a better UI.

DX50 = $239

Tralucent T1 = $259

= $498 TOTAL

or

DX100 = $829 (and has a worse interface)

Honestly pacman, I absolutely recommend you get a DX50.

Further, I use the DX50 exclusively with the ER4S, which I have modded with 8-wire braided silver plated PCOCC-A cable into Shure-type adapters that fit into the ends of the ER4 barrel.  I should post some pictures of my modded ER4S as they look really good; silver wire in clear dialectic x 8 and braided looks awesome -- people have stopped me several times on the street in SF to ask what headphones I am wearing--they sound much more present with the modded cables.  Also, by having the resistors at the end of the barrel, instead of in the middle of the headphone cable (as in the factory cable), there is no splice in my cables, unlike the factory cables.

Correct, i gave a direct link to them a while back. They don't show in etys site. They only have different red filters, but the link i gave adds them directly to the cart. Or you can use this link you gave...

If you find the grays to be slightly too big (hence uncomfortable), and the klipsch biflanges to be slightly too small, then I highly recommend these tips from amazon. They're just slightly smaller than the grays, and are a bit more pliable. They definitely turned the ER4S into a very comfortable iem for me.

Those black bi-flange tips are great.

You linked to the version that is size Large.

Here is the link to Amazon to the exact same tips, from the exact same seller for size Small:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B007X8LGN2/ref=oh_details_o01_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

-- I have previously purchased both sizes from that seller and the smalls fit me better.

Re high capacity battery for Fiio E11 amplifier

In 2011, I bought a battery from Ebay from a seller called "bluestone004".

The product description is: 2050mAh BL-5B High Capacity Battery F Nokia 5300 N80

That battery has worked great in my Fiio E11, in fact, it has NEVER died during regular use (only when I left it on for tow days accidentally).

So, you should search for a battery to fit a Nokia 5300 -- I believe those batteries are available up to 2350 mAh.

Thanks. Curiously enough I was scanning through thievesbay just for that a high cap Nokia battery. Terrific to know that it really works.

Dead horse I know but if the S is just a P with the inline resistance that can't be removed and the P now comes with the P2S cable... any downside to getting the P?

The red filters listed under Ety8 DO NOT fit the ER4 series.

To obtain the red filters from Etymotic that fit the ER4 series (ER38-50BN), go here:

FYI: the BEAN Quiet Sound Amplifier is an Etymotic product.

Also, many thanks to luisdent for turning me on to the red filters; he suggested I write Etymotic to get more info on the red filters.

18937 (replaced) Right and 2114 Left Original.  Here.

hey guys, can anyone tell me how an original er4p sounds beyond 8khz?

I just recently got mine reshelled after it laid broken in my collection for 3 months

but now I cant recall the original sound the only I've noticed is that there is a steep roll off beyond 8-9 kHz

if remembered the original sound as very bright and lean

listen to this song, there is a faint snare in the distance during the first 45 seconds of the song.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=os8WIRrtu5o

is it very distinguishable? because now with this reshell I can hardly hear the snares vs my speakers

You have a steep rolloff starting at only 8kHz? Somebody messed up the reshelling, that's incredibly low.
