Hello,
I am new to the speaker world but not new to the headphone/IEM world. I am looking into getting a pair of bookshelf speakers for my "living room" in my 1 bedroom apartment. I haven't moved into my new place yet so I can't give dimensions but I don't need anything more than a 2.0 set. I am wondering what gear I would need to connect everything I have together with some small requirements.
First and very first requirement is that I can control the volume with a remote. This is because I will be connecting my TV, Xbox and laptop to my music making machines. Based on my requirement for a remote I believe active speakers are completely out of the question which also kills some of my speaker choices (M Audio and Audioengine speakers). Is there combination dac/amps with a remote to use with speakers? Do these have a different name? I would like the dac section to have a digital input so I can use my optical on my laptop to feed it. I am looking at Wharfedale 9.1 speakers and would like the DAC since I watch tv/movies via my laptop and we all know how laptop sound is.
So basically I need a dac and amp for speakers that takes a digital input and has a remote.
If there are suggestions of any gear my overall budget is ~500. I am expecting I can get the Wharfedales for 300 which leaves quite a limited amount for the amp/dac. I would prefer to buy used based purely on getting better gear cheaper and it doesn't hurt if it looks nice.
Appreciate the help,
Adam
