Potentiometer for portable volume control?

I did some searching in the threads, but i cant find the answer my question, i have a hearing loss in my left ear, and i am doing a volume controller for my headphones' left channel. I am thinking of using potentiometers and i have two of them now, a 10k and a 50k.

NEGLECTING the sound quality, will the potentiometer drain my battery? I am using an iPod > (i will place the potentiometer here) > Fiio E5 > Sennheiser HD 428.

Please note that my headphone are solely for portable use, so i am thinking if pots will drain my battery out..

If you set the iPod's output to 75%-100% and use the Fiio for the normal volume control [like most people with portable amps] (I assume the pots are going to be set to match your hearing, like a balance control (which you should of done in the first place using one of the two pots [locking it with some hot glue so it's always balanced properly for you])).  The answer is no, no more then not using the balance control [Still using your Fiio in a similar manor].  If you wire it like a normal balance control it'll probably minorly reduce your battery life.  If you wire it inline and not have either pot touching ground it shouldn't reduce the battery at all.  Since the Fiio is doing the work, it shouldn't be much of a load.  Why did you not just get two 10k or 50k pots?

Using your iPod at 75-100% will more so then using it to control the volume.  But that's a trade of between the amps battery life and the iPod's.

so will addingpots in the interconnect wont hurt my ipod's battery? im planning to use a 6 pin pot jnstead of two. again Neglecting the SQ, what isthe difdrence between using 10k and 50k? say i both have the wiper in the middle? power loss, volume loss?

Why not just use one mono pot in the right channel dropping the level to match the left

Even better!  Wire it inline.

As for the battery it shouldn't.  If you find are running out of power just get an external battery pack to make it last longer.  I would say your hearing problem takes priority.  You use the amp and iPod currently? [Without the pot].  If it lasts right now, don't worry about it.
