Bought this off ebay for around £60 , did not really have high expectations. Tested using iPhone 3G w/ LOD L3 cable.

#2 Skullcandy SK PRO

#3 Klipsh X1

For starters the amp does have great looks and i never thought i'd use the silicon case but with it you maintain the great looks whilst keeping the amp free from scratches .

I have owned the SK PRO for over 6 months now and to be honest they have next to nothing on bass. Using this great device adds a sophisticated amount of bass that is not overpowering but a vast improvement maintaining the clarity of the audio.

Before E7 = 5/10

With E7    = 7/10

The Sennheisers are a cheapo i bought last week just to chuck about not caring whether they break or not, i often take these to my school to use although they are open and do not isolate sound , there is about 40% leak @ max volume.

They did at stock have more bass than the SK PRO at an affordable price but do not feel as comfortable and do leak.

Bass is much clearer and less muddy with the E7 and has a slight volume boost whilst maintaing clarity as said before with the SK PRO. In my opinion the E7 does not distort headphones at max as i thought it would.

Before E7 = 6/10

With E7    = 8/10

Onto the ear bud klipsh X1. These are what i often use as they only have about 15% leak at max volume and overall have good quality. On the matter , there is no bass but has great trebble. I do not think that the E7 amped these as well as i would have wanted but do sound great. No added bass with the EQ although they sound overall very good.

Before E7 =7/10

With E7    =7.5/10

Concluding this i'd like to add that the amp is great value for money and definatly beats a lot of other amps on the market today. Plus this amp being pocket sized yet performing so well is amazing and just for that i'd say to buy it.

I am also going out to buy the XB500 Sony headphones now , if anybody wants to know how they sounded just leave a comment.

FiiO E7 = 8.5/10

You should use them as a DAC as that is what they are designed for. To my ears the fiio E5 and E7 amp section are only slightly different, with the E5 being warmer. However the DAC adds better stereophonic imaging.

What do you mean by using them as DAC?

E7 acts as a DAC (Digital Analog Converter) and an amp, (like a sound card) when connected to a computer throught the USB port.

Plug it into your computer thru the usb. It sounds way better that way. E7's USB DAC is better than its amp

With my Denons the E7 sounds very good.

And I can definitely hear the difference in volume.

I use Denon D5000s with the E7 and so far it has been a great combination. Thanks for the write up OP
