Sennheiser HD 600 Impressions Thread - Page 604

I'm really surprised how close tonally your HD650 is to the HD600 though Rizki.  I remember when I originally compared the two years ago that there seemed to be a lot more difference.  I'm wondering now whether I simply was under-amping them, or if Sennheiser has changed the drivers slightly.  Anyway - I'll be finished with the comparison by middle of next week - then I'll get both off to you.

Now that is a surprise, I'm also expecting them to be very different, though it has been a long time since I've heard the HD600. Looking forward to read your review of them, Paul!

True, it's not always the case and there also is the matter of a preferred sound signature(s). I found I have to get an upgrade in the direction of my preferred sound signature. In the case of the HD 600/650 that's something like the LCD-2, and in the case of the K712 that's the K812.

Just joined the HD600 club. Cleaner than my HD558s, though my amp's probably not doing this thing justice. Anyone have thoughts on the Firestone Audio FUBAR IV Plus DAC/Amp?

I have just moved up from the 558 to the 600 as well. Luckily my Aune T1 works great with the 600. Deeper, louder and more refined than the 558. Why do you think the FUBAR isn't up to driving these?

I got these used off of eBay and so I assumed (since there wasn't much description) they had more hours then they've probably actually had. Sounded better than the HD558s right off the bat, but sounded a bit off somehow. Have been running music through them for the past couple of days (same volume I'd normally listen to) and they're sounding a little better now. I also realized I'd been trying to compare to my bro's HD650 and amp pairing, but besides knowing the 650 and 600 sound different, I realized I forgot he was using a tube amp and the FUBAR isn't a tube amp. I quite like my FUBAR though. I haven't really had access to try anything else, but I think it's a pretty good DAC/amp in both use and aesthetic. How's your Aune T1? I was considering one of those as well a couple years back when I got my FUBAR, but the FUBAR just ended up being a fair bit cheaper.

I would have ordered one in eBay too but worried about getting a warranty as there research I've done on where to buy them from the more I found out that the cable interconnects are a major problem for people and they regularly send theirs back

Yeah, I'm aware of that too. I actually kinda banked on these being new enough that they were the ones with the revised cable connections in the drivers, using better springs. Based on the color of the baffle plate material (these ones are kinda an off-white), I'm guessing these are part of the more recent (recent considering the HD600 headphone model is almost as old as I am haha) sets in which they hopefully addressed the connection spring issue.

You have to buy a really old pair to have this problem. Mine were from 2002 or something and it wasn't there.

Well that stinks because I would probably already be listening to a pair of these if I had known that lol. . Too late now, I committed my finances to other things as the holiday season is around the corner. However smily_headphones1.gif I managed to set back enough to go to the NY metro meet in a couple weeks!

The problem is also easy to fix if you do have it. Just pop open the cups and adjust the springs.

A decent number of the ones I saw on eBay looked like they would be new enough to probably not have that problem.

Posted this in the deals thread https://www.buysonic.com/products/sennheiser-hd-600/. I got it for $274.99 brand new!smily_headphones1.gif

I bit on the Buysonic deal. I really loved the 600 after spending time at the Sennheiser booth at CanJam. I think this will be a great compliment to my HE-400. I actually suspect the 600 will get more love. I did a lot of critical listening in choosing the Alclair RSM and I feel I am more inclined to a more neutral sound signature.
