Sennheiser HD 600 Impressions Thread - Page 579

Not going to be a popular answer but I honestly think that it is at least 50% neurosis. Those who go away content with their Beats are probably enjoying their music rather than obsessing over detail.

As long as people have tried out some other options, if they want to go Beats, go for it. I'm trying not to be erm... elitist.

When I sit and listen to music, I can really appreciate how my HD600's or HE-500's deliver music to my ears. Wonky sound doesn't appeal to me as it detracts from the listening experience and so compromises the senses. Imagine a wine aficionado drinking with a stuffy nose.

Perhaps an elitist would buy a very an overly expensive set of headphone for the pleasure of bragging rights, not for the pleasure of the listening experience. In the world of great sounding headphones, IMO the HD600's are a bargain.

I didn't notice any difference sonically between the two. The 650 cable is just sturdier and has the 6.3mm jack. That fit my needs.

I haven't really noticed much difference with my HD 600 and cable swapping, so I just use the stock cable because I like how lightweight it is. Yet on the K712 and Q701 the difference between cables is obvious, not really sure why. I also find the difference obvious on interconnects.

I use Spotify Premium as well. Absolutely brilliant.
I've tried to back away from the whole audiophile thing as much as I can as I have come to the conclusion that getting into equipment can be the enemy of enjoying listening to music.
Tricky though as I am a sucker for lovely sound quality!

Wish they had an ASIO/WASAPI mode and ability to choose the output easily.

If you've got JRiver on your PC, then you can use loopback mode to push Spotify through the audio rendering engine of JRiver.  Works well, and appears to give you bit perfect streaming. Discussed here: http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=70242.0 and in a number of other threads.

Thanks, maybe I'll try that.

Meanwhile I've tamed down my OCD and just using DirectSound (matching 44.1Khz/24bit mode in Windows panel) and Equalify plugin for Spotify to set the correct output.

For really critical listening I've still got my Foobar2000/ASIO with FLAC library.
