EDIT: Anyone nowhere to find a good price on the HD600? Razordogdeals is out and I missed out on the Amazon deal. Any other deals out there?

Looks like there's a pair new on Amazon for $280 (posted in the used section).

Just got my used pair in, they're sounding good (no idea how many hours on them) so far.

Same here. Enjoying them right at the moment smily_headphones1.gif What amp do you use for your HD-600's? I'm looking for one in max. 150$ range. Is there anything better than Fiio e9 for this price range?

Using the headphone output of my receiver atm, but the channel balance is very bad especially at low volumes. Also these sound slightly muddy, I think it's the amp, because it makes my Portapros sound almost unlistenable.

these are still my favorite cans. they are the benchmark of all my listening impressions. they are the can I'm building my home system around. i've had mine for a few years now and they still look brand new. i upgraded my closed cans just to have a balance between the openness of the hd600 and a good closed can which my beyers failed to do.

I LOVE THESE HEADPHONES!!!

I've seen more and more listings with them fetching a higher premium than the hd650.. tells you something about how classic these actually are becoming.

Have a look at the Audio-gd NFB-12.  I use it for my HD600's.  Amp is pretty good.  DAC is very good.  New version has adjustable filters.

Back to talking about the hd600 mods, I tried taking off the foam under the pads, taking of the back foam behind the drivers, taking off both, all configurations, etc... and going back to stock config really is the best. taking off the front foam adds highs but makes the mids more colored. Taking off the back foam adds a little bass but drowns out some midrange detail, going back to stock configuration and aaaaahhhh yes this is the life :D The hd600s are back to how they should be

I don't see any real need to mod these headphones to begin with. that's sacrilegious lol

How'd you manage to put the foam at the back of the drivers back in after taking them out?

I cut a small circular hole at the foam under the pads, made them slightly brighter then stock. The size of it is as big as the opening of the plastic frame.

I just slipped them in with a hair puller then pulled on each side to spread them out

What do you guys think of the fact that innerfidelity's FR measurements show the HD650 as much more neutral than the HD600, the HD600 having recessed bass. Could it be that a lot of hifi'ers are bass-shy? :O  Also the DT880 shows as more neutral than either the HD650 or HD600.

You'd have to know how they measure (equipment, test signals, smoothing, etc.) before being able to comment.

They have an entire article on it:

Very informative, thanks for the link!

It looks very similar to HeadRoom's measurement - except HeadRoom's is 5dB higher on the graph.

I think frequency response only tells part of the story.  It gives an indication of what to expect, but not everything.  For example, the Q701 has better bass depth and punch than the HD600 according to headroom's graph pictured here-

graphCompare.php?graphType=0&graphID[]=2931&graphID[]=573

Now anyone who has heard both will know that is not the case, actually finding the opposite to be true(though the Q701 does have excellent bass extension).  While it's true the HD650 is bassier, the HD600 is by no means bass light.  Though, it is strange that measurements can show one thing while what one actually hears may be quite different.
