It would help to know where "local" is for you - as you have no info in your profile.  Some information to go on will assist people giving advice.

What about the FS section here?  It's where I've purchased both my HD600s - one sub $300, and one sub $200 (although I had to replace drivers on that one).

i'm really afraid of second hand

OK - Israel is a little tougher.

As far as FS section goes - I've had plenty of purchases and sales on these boards.  Most of the gear I've had has been second hand.  I haven't had an issue with a single purchase (apart from 1 pair of HD600s - but I knew the driver needed replacing, and the price allowed for it).

Most people here tend to baby their gear - and best thing to do is trade with someone who has a good history and excellent feedback

It's your call really - if you want to save some money, buying on these boards (with due diligence beforehand) is what I'd recommend.  Otherwise try emailing Sennheiser direct, explain the problem and see if they have a recommendation.

Now that I switched to the LCD-2, I kind of miss the comfort of these from time to time...

Just recently sennheiser is focusing on larger retailers mostly

Try headamp maybe? I think the owner is a poster on head-fi as well

Where are you based? If in US, I might be interested to sell mine with new drivers, earpads, headband cushion and Cardas cable upgrade.

Edit: just put them on sale, price is $300 OBO.

Just thought I would drop in and say hello.

I have been reading about these cans, along with the 650 and the AKGs for as long as I can remember.  I tried the Q701 a few years ago and let them go last year, as much as I loved the spatial qualities and the often great synergy in the mids on some material I concluded that they were just lacking something for me.  So I jumped up to HD700, and despite a flaw or two, love what they do.  Added a few more nice headphones over the last 6 months but just yesterday decided to grab a set of HD600.  I thought it would be cool to have the 600, 700, and at some point next year, add the HD800 to my collection...

What a pleasant surprise!  What a great headphone the HD 600 is!  I feel a bit stupid for not starting here a few years ago, because turning your nose at the HD 600 is like disrespecting your own mother.  It has earned its place, and it continues to give you love even when you run around like a know-it-all jackass.

Here is the interesting thing for me:  Every one of my other headphones does something better than the HD 600, and sometimes to a rather significant degree.  I will argue that on every single metric one could identify, except general comfort (for which they are outstanding after some gentle bending sessions), they struggle to excel in relative terms.  But here is the thing, they also show me what every single other headphone is lacking.

Did you get used to another headphone, maybe start listening through rose colored glasses as you focused on the strengths and learned to live with the weaknesses?  Well, the HD 600 just smacks those glasses off your face and tells you like it is:  This is what music is supposed to sound like, this is how you connect to the musicians and forget about the gear.

They are a great pairing with the NAD D1050 which I am also convinced plays a similar role in the world of DAC/amps.  It just sounds right, top to bottom, side to side, just sounds like music in liquid form.  Not air (others have more extended treble), not crystal (others are more resolving of detail), not granite (others have a more solid foundation).... just liquid in the sense that it is organic and free flowing.  Certainly not syrupy, nor veiled in any way, as they are as balanced and unimposing as I could ever ask.  They also sound decent right out of my macbook, and a little better through a Dragonfly, but the NAD brings it home.  For me, YMMV.

Still breaking them in, but they are already making themselves known to me and putting my other headphones on notice:  Sure, you may be newer, you may have a little more sex appeal and dive into the soundtrack with a little better form, but I can still bring it home, without complaint, without bravado, and if you are really about the music you probably won't be missing out on anything.  Great job Sennheiser, I will happily keep these for a very long time.

You have just discovered an open secret! smily_headphones1.gif

So true... so true.  I guess I just always assumed the grass was greener somewhere else.  Not the first time I have fallen into that trap, parting with my hard earned money because of what all the cool kids were doing, throwing in some extra coin so I could taste a little more luxury (still just tastes like chicken).  Yeah, I will still keep and enjoy the higher priced stuff, and still sing their praises every now and then, but the HD 600 has humbled me a bit.

If anyone out there has the budget to hit this mark, but not enough to go much further...don't lose any sleep over it.

I think the 600's are a stone cold audio bargain. Build and SQ worth double the asking IMHO. Paired with an O2 I'm done. I'm sure there is better but I don't need better!

Have any of you guys tried cables from ZY HiFi cable? 6N OCC copper wire: good price on Amazon as far as upgrade cables go: http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00EI8AXYS/ref=mp_s_a_1_18?qid=1401044003&sr=8-18&pi=AC_SX110_SY165_QL70

I think a pretty revealing statement would be to name another HP that can come close to what the 600 can do.  At, and above its price point..  You can name some top tier cans, and yes, there are things that they can do better then the 600, but the 600 will still better them in at least one area.  Maybe not the Stax 009, but it better be amazing at that price point.  I would choose the 600 before the lcd 2, 3, he400, he500.  They are better at some things, but the 600 does better what is important to me.

We'll see how the new he560 does.  I'm looking forward to that one.  still probably keep the 600 either way.

I've heard Beyer's, Denon's, Hifiman... Around and way above the 600's price point. Then of course there are the HD 800's. It is on that context that I suggest they could hold their own at a much higher price. It's probably a bit of a pointless thing to say. The fact is they are worth every penny of what I paid. I would encourage anyone in the market for a quality pair of headphones to at least get a listen to a pair.
