Sennheiser HD 600 Impressions Thread - Page 516

I'm not a huge cable enthusiast.  But I will say that when I listened to the black dragon and silver dragon cables back to back, there was an obvious difference.  Enough that it wasn't just my brain looking for change.

So I believe saying that cables do nothing is a pretty uneducated opinion.  Now, are the cables worth changing?  Not for me.  and the asking prices of aftermarket cables are laughable.

Find a DIY'er you trust, and have them make you a cable for a fair price if you want to switch things up.

If that is pointed at me, I didn't say cables do nothing.  Impedance can affect sound.  Uneducated?  Get real and get off your horse.  Take it to sound science with your research data.

A short definition of the Subjectivist position on power amplifiers might read as follows:

  • Objective measurements of an amplifier's performance are unimportant compared with the subjective impressions received in informal listening tests. Should the two contradict the objective results may be dismissed out of hand.

I use my sony stereo headphone output so far and i don't have any problem with the volume, but there is a hiss noise which i hate. If i can't tell the difference with A-B test then it's not worth it for me to spend 250 euros for a dac/amp. ( i use the onboard sound card from my PC)

IMO, they do scale upward in SQ very nicely with upgraded amps/DAC's.  There are many with low noise floor that will pair nicely, and the O2 has many fans here.

Well I can tell you that the O2 is dead silent.

Ok, thanks for the replies about the cables & amps. I will buy the amp first and if i notice a big difference i will try a dac too. I am new to the audiophile "thing" but i try to do my research :)

If you are in UK Epiphany Acoustics do a home trial for the ODAC.

Wasn't pointed at you at all, but to anyone who makes the blanket statement that cables don't matter. To say that, or anything absolute in this hobby really, is pretty narrow minded. And much more of a high horse statement then mine. Don't be such a negative nelly.

I live in Greece. So... :\    I was going to buy the O2 and the odac from headnhifi. They have much more convenient IO.

It would help to know where "local" is for you - as you have no info in your profile.  Some information to go on will assist people giving advice.

What about the FS section here?  It's where I've purchased both my HD600s - one sub $300, and one sub $200 (although I had to replace drivers on that one).
