Crack, if you are up to building it and hopefully you get the speedball upgrade, though you can certainly do that later.

Is only crack with no dac and no speedball okay for now?

With HPA2 I will  get the free internal DAC.

In which of the two amps is soundstage bigger? by a greater margin? Crack retains the clarity of the M stage amp?

Crack amp is 330$ shipped and M stage HPA2 USB is 320$ shipped

Most here would say the crack works better. Sorry I haven't tried as I'm not very handy at all

Something like the NAD HP50 or a Focal Spirit Classic should be seriously considered ;)

I spent a while deciding between the PSB M4U and the NAD HP50 and eventually went with the M4U, should arrive today

I'll try and do some comparisons to the 600s but I'm awful at noticing or describing sound !

Without getting into a cable discussion,  Changing cables IMO is more for looks, length, or plug termination.  YMMV

I tend to agree, though if you want to get into a really good fight, go to the "Toxic Cables Appreciation Thread".  :D

LOL!

I bit the bullet. Saw a pair on Amazon for $379. The lowest price for a new pair I've seen so far, and with giftcards I had I ended up paying around $75. Good deal right?!!

Can't wait to listen to them with my GeekOut 450! Heard good things about this combo. When I get my GeekPulseX desktop DAC/AMP, will consider some balanced cables and just try it myself.

Thanks to everyone who answered my questions!

Ok, aftermarket cables won't make any difference for my ears. Will an amp/dac (i am thinking O2/Odac combo) noticeably improve the sound quality? I use my sony stereo headphone output so far and i don't have any problem with the volume, but there is a hiss noise which i hate. If i can't tell the difference with A-B test then it's not worth it for me to spend 250 euros for a dac/amp. ( i use the onboard sound card from my PC)

It sounds like you need to demo some gear to make that decision for yourself.

That's pretty difficult. I can't think a way that can make that possible.

Is there any chance a Head-fi meet may be in your area?  Other than that, some retailers may offer a return period that would allow you to audition gear.
