I think most hi fi headphones sound better in balanced mode. You just have to have a balanced amplifier

Nah they're the NS333, the drivers just look white in the photo

hm.. any solution to easily switch between monitor speakers and headphones easily? Right now my HD600 isn't getting much love since i got the LSR305 because it's too much of a hassle to go behind the desk and off both of the speakers, turn on my amp and plug the HD600 in. My setup now is PC > ODAC > iCan (pass through) > speakers/ headphones.

http://schiit.com/products/sys-passive-preamp ?

Just guessing.

PS: probably won't work for you, because it's input switch, not output...

you're right, that's for switching inputs not outputs. That volume control though.

You might want to read up about that Schiit.  I think people are using it in reverse also.  But don't quote me.

In reverse with the volume at max I believe.

I used this with my Vali and Audioengine A2s until I bought an Asgard 2.

It really is overpriced, though.

Thanks for pointing that out about the schitt preamp. I'm curious what's it about the Asgard 2 that made the a/b switcher unnecessary?

The Asgard 2 has preamp outputs.

Sorry I don't quite understand how it works ... there's no switch other than the power so how does it serve the function?

Plugging in the headphones mutes the preamp output jacks.

wow, that's convenient
