For whatever reason , the stock HD600 ($27.42) cable costs twice as much as the stock HD600 ($12.32) cable, so I am not sure the HD650 cable is any better quality.

This excerpt is from Stephan Audio Art site.

Performance TIP:  The Sennheiser HD600/580 stock headphone cable is MUCH better sonically than the Sennheiser HD650 stock cable. The HD650 stock headphone cable uses considerably more signal polluting dielectric which degrades the audio signal. If you want to improve the overall sound of your HD650's, change the stock headphone cable to the HD600/580 stock headphone cable. That improvement just scratches the surface as far as how much sonic improvement the E-Series cables offer the Sennheiser HD650, HD600 and HD580 headphones.

I found it in this thread for anyone interested to read more of the same: http://www.head-fi.org/t/559642/hd-650-cable-vs-hd-600-580

"Got any spare change for a meal, man?

"My friend - I want you to have this. It's an 02, HD600 W/ Cardas cabling combo. You're welcome."

Then he'll put it on his head and start bopping to the music, even though it's not connected to anything.

A dielectric determines the capacitance of the cable. More capacitance is bad, when it get's high enough it starts cutting treble and with more starts getting lower into the mids and so on. Unless they have given you figures and done calculations I wouldn't get too worked up. It takes a lot of capacitance to intrude into audio frequencies. I wanted to know, so I measured my HD600 cable. I would be surprised if Sennheiser would make such a fundamental error with the HD650 cable.

By the way, that head-fi thread was silly.

So who's got a stock HD650 cable and a capacitance meter?

Even a wino knows that Beats sucks and he can pawn them on some naive head bopping fashion conscious status seeking chump and buy enough Mad Dog (Mogen David, cheap booze not the headphones) to last a month. ;)

I disagree...I ascertained it's the cable that makes the HD650 darker than the HD600. There I said it!

If you have the HD600 and want a pair of HD650, you can save $480 if you just buy the cable.

I can't wait until next week when my new cable arrives and I show off my marbled HD650! :D

I have an HD650 cable and a multi-meter.  If you tell me what you want to measure, I can have a go.  I'm not an EE - so you may need to explain it in layman's terms.  PM me if you want.

BTW - if anyone curious - I bought the HD600 second hand and it cane with the HD650 cable.  I made my own cables for my SR325i, K702, and DT880 - all for aesthetic reasons.  I noticed no change in sonics.

I would never buy a pair of Beats from a homeless person...nasty!

Measure the capacitance and get back to me. :D No way, I like the treble of the HD600's that's why after comparing them side by side I left with the HD600's even though I came in wanting the latest and the greatest. Got to love J&R, I had the following on the counter: HD800 (over budget), HD700 (was willing to stretch the wallet), HD650 (my target) and the HD600 (worth checking). 45 minutes later worth checking became my final choice. HD700's too much treble, HD650's not enough treble, HD600 right on the spot.

I don't think that helps us because your are in the Southern Hemisphere so your capacitance measurements will be the reverse of ours unless you measure a balanced cable...but I'm not an EE either so I might be mistaken.

You have to unplug the cable and use clip leads to measure the capacitance between the the two prongs that attach to an earcup. Use clip leads so you are not touching anything with your hands. You should be measuring in pico farads or 10-12 Farads. If measured the HD600 stock cable and it was around 300 pF.

And for God's sake, take off the yellow wellies first.:D

Oh hey, are we discussing differences between cables?

You think he's designed a Gyrator already? He's just starting out as a Jr.Engineer.
