Appreciate the comments guys.
The wife is of course oblivious!wink.gif
I'm in luck. I have tomorrow afternoon of work. I'll go and collect the 600's then have a good listen.
Actually talking of luck I'm pretty chuffed that I was able to order the 600's.

Is there a difference between years?

I like the look of the 598, so classy.

But honestly, I saw photos of the marble on the 600s and thought "lol, 90s style" but in person, it's really pretty good. It doesn't photograph well. I quite like the grills, too.

I don't think so, except the color of the mesh around drivers. My HD600s are decade old and had a black mesh originally, now I have brand new (silver) drivers in them (replaced both last year due to damage) and there's no perceptible difference in sound. They sound as good as they did 10 years ago...

But these.. I think these are mine to stay. They are a perfect companion for the LCD 2.2. Alpha and omega, yin and yang.

Where do you see yourself using the LCD 2.2 and vice versa? I'm pretty close to going the other way and adding the the LCD 2.2, after owning the HD600 for some time now.

Everyone is different. For my tastes, I see it going like this:

LCD 2.2: Cinema, electronic music, intricate/detailed basslines, sub-bass rumbles, games, loud listening. I personally believe they were designed to be ideally listened at a higher volume.

HD600: Classical, acoustic, vocal, long listening sessions, softer listening. Accurate and natural listening, with plenty of detail.

TL;DR:

If the HD600 were the "studio", then the LCD 2.2 would be the "cinema".

One is not "better" than the other - they have different strengths, and compliment each other nicely.

Nice take on it. Pretty amazing that the HD600 isn't obsoleted, given the price difference (granted, the voicing's are very different). Thanks for offering your perspective, much appreciated.

This is what I find so amazing about it. They were released in what, 1993 or something? That's incredible, and definitely shows they are doing something right.

Just after the Grado HP-1000s. They must have known what they were doing with dynamic cans in the early 90s!

Either of these stand up to any other dynamic offered today,,,

Sennheiser definitely got bang for their buck on the R&D of the 580/600/650

Now that's an honest answer, we don't get enough like that.
