It would put so many headphone companies out of business! What is this madness you speak of?!

Hah! Anyway..

Yeah, I could use the Klark-teknik, or maybe one of my parametric units, but yeah - that's not what I'm after.

Thank you for the idea, though :)

I do like IEM's when I travel, but I'm a loyal Etymotic fan. Plus, $500 is a lot of money for an earphone.

I hope they have a "neutral detent" for that bass tuning control. It's a great idea, but it would drive me nuts if I moved it and then wanted to go back to the "factory setting." I also hope the bass tuning control has "clicks" so you know both earpieces are on the same setting.

Back to the HD 600 though...

It really is one of the best all around headphones you can buy and I do think it sounds lovely with OTL tube amps like the Bottlehead Crack. Another amp I heard it with a couple years ago that I loved is a Jolida FX-10 tube amp with a resistor box connected to the speaker taps. Man my 600's sounded so clean and punchy with that setup!

I guess you didn't care for the IEM's. They were Senns. :D

Don't you know that smoking weeds can give you Duck's Disease which can only be cured by tube rolling.

Rolling tubes requires some kind off effort...not too sure about that. :L3000:

Where does the term "rolling" come from?

Back in the old days - people used to roll the vacuum tubes along the ground.  If the filament was still intact - it was a good tube.

interesting to hear that "rolling" has a logical root. I always thought it was one of those overblown terms like"surfing the web" i.e. sitting in your bedroom looking at a screen!

Anyway, I am lucky enough to be awaiting delivery of a pair of 600's. I've read that they sound good with OTL amps like the Crack but I have always favored modern technology. Is this ignorance on my part or is it valid to think that technology is headed in a forward direction and that valves are outdated?

Perfectly valid.  My reference is my solid state.  I still love tubes.

I'm coming clean.  Don't roll your tube on the ground...I pulled that one right out of my ass...thought it was funny.

But jeez imagine someone actually did that on my advice.
