Sennheiser HD 600 Impressions Thread - Page 384

Does anyone listen to dubstep and heavy d'n'b' on their HD-600s (aside classic/jazz/acoustic/rock kind of thing)?

Also progressive trance and such... I find it pretty enjoyable lately. Not too shabby.

Yesh, I do. Mostly D'n'B and Dubstep for me. I really like it: My Koss Porta Pro sound really muddy now

when I play the same tracks which sound great on the Senns. ;) Don't know if that's a good thing yet

because I am not going to wear the HD 600 in public (too bulky and too expensive). Now I can not

enjoy the music to the same degree when I am on the train and only have the Portas with me.

Got any good tracks to recommend? (I know there is a special thread for that but maybe there is a song

you like in particular with those cans).

I don't have any particular recommendations, I just tune into one of the great di.fm channels (either Dubstep/Club Dubstep/Dark D'n'B/Progressive Trance). Their Premium streams are really high quality (MP3 @ 256 Kbps).

PS: thanks for the thread - love Bassnectar. :)

Mmmm, Gung/Mojo is burning in, more layers, more depth, I like these cans more and more.

I have both.  I got the 650's originally, and built a Bottlehead Crack with speedball to go with the 650's. ODAC as the DAC. I was happy.  I went to a meet, and heard a 600 through my own chain at the meet, and bought a set that day.  I still have 650's, but rarely, very rarely use them anymore.  It's all personal preference, but for me the 600's a much more natural sound, extend much higher (without sibilance or harshness).  Going back and forth, they are both excellent, but I just find the non-bloated sound of the 600 more refined.  I still like the 650's a lot, but I find my self missing the highs, and getting annoyed by the "bloatyness".  The 600's have less bass, but with the bloat out of the way, you can hear more articulation in the low end.  Still, for gawd awful modern mastered music in MP3 (the stuff with 3 db's of DR), the 650's are the go to, they can seemingly make any dreck sound pretty good. It's been a year, I still have the 650's, clearly there is something there that's worth keeping. Just my $.02.

For $200 to $300 DAC, what should I get for my Crack and HD 600. Thinking of ODAC for it's neutrality and give the rest to Crack to color etc... But is there any good DAC, perhaps better than ODAC?

All dacs that's meet the minimum requirements for transparency sound the same so just get the odac.

Make sense. How come transparent can't be different. Silly me. Big amp, small DAC on my table. Nice...

Back when I had my HD 600 I was in so much glory that I couldn't wait to upgrade to the HD 650. As much as people praise the 650's, I just couldn't get used to the darkish overall sound. The 600 was just perfect for me and till this day I can't wait to obtain a new pair again. I even purchased an Equinox cable for them but found it made the 600 a tad to bright. Anyway I love the HD 600's and can't wait to own them, hopefully forever this time! smily_headphones1.gif

I recently sold my 650 and got the 600.

Definitely prefer the 600 for similar reasons.

How does the o2/odac pair with these? Is the o2 miles behind the bottlehead crack?

Have you done a volume matched double blind test ? If not then the difference is
It's likely confirmation bias at play. It happens to all of us.
