But I'm really hoping that they actually find something 'wrong' and that they can fix it. I love the sound of my 600s, but the off-centre soundstage is so irritating that I just can't listen to them.

Sorry for necro-ing my own post, but my 600s came back from Senn UK yesterday. £54 very well spent :)

New earpads and headband pad (the 650 one, interestingly). And two new drivers. The service note they sent out is a bit lacking in detail - all it says is "audio level problem - headphone unit - cut/broken - replacement", then there's the product code for two lots of what Google tells me is the driver unit.

End result, the soundstage is now rock-solid and dead centre.

A pretty fast turn around as well, considering I sent them just before the Christmas/New Year break.

Thats great news Stonephace and good to know that they can fix headphones out of warranty for not too much.

Hey guys, please vote in my HD600 vs HD650 poll if you've listened to both on similar setups! The link is below:

Looks like I was first to the draw. I compared them side by side, with a switch before making my purchase.

So,

Yulong DAH-1 mk2
Audio-GD
Schiit (Magni / Modi / Vali / Loki)
O2+ODAC

And if I stretch the budget even higher,

Meier Stagedac & Concerto

The Schiit and O2-ODAC combos I've been considering. Audio-GD has a confusing product line for someone not as technically-educated; I'm not sure which products I should be looking at. The Yulong DAH-1 MK2 is thought well of and I haven't heard of before.

Meier products don't seem as easy to come by in the U.S., unfortunately.

Thanks so far guys!

I tried ODAC and O2amp combo... My comment is no coloration so quite not fun for me. But I think this is the safest combo since you won't be facing warm or bright sound issue. The other downside for me is, lack of bass in some songs that can be fun with tight or rumbling bass.

O2+ODAC would be the cleanest set up you could buy at $200-300 really. I heard that Hifimediy Saber DAC with the Schiit Magni would be a similar if not equivalent setup for less.

Vali sounds exceptional with the 600s for me. Really fills out the bass and no stridency on the upper end assuming decent upstream (lossless or high bit rate files + decent DAC). This compared to the HP amp on my STX soundcard which makes me want to EQ a little bass and can sound a tad strident on some files. Vali really gives me what I thought the Senns were missing when I got them a month ago (a little more low end).

Also, as comparison, I often use the HD600 with the iBasso DX50/JDS Labs C5 combo around the house. I use the C5's bass boost (+6.5 db boost I believe) liberally with this set up even though it is occasionally a tad too much (solved somewhat with the new C5D which has two boost settings, a lower 2.5 db boost as well as the 6.5 db boost ). I NEVER feel the need to EQ the bass up with the Vali. It is just pleasingly awesome on the low end without dominating the mids or highs we love in the 600s. The combo of 600/Vali/STX has been positively dreamy the last few weeks. Pretty darn happy with 600 and Vali. Happy with STX too although I've had it for several years and getting a bit of an itch to try a different DAC.

Hi - I have a pair of HD580s that i've had for several years and the headstrap (i.e. the plastic band on top of yer head) has finally broken. The plastic has cracked in 2 right at the top.

I realise this is a 600 appreciation thread - but I'd be really grateful if anyone has advice about replacement/repair for its close, older cousin the 580....

I'm in Sydney by the way.

cheers!

I thought the vali was a dsd dac? It shouldn't be functioning when using regular hd files.
