Auditioned them with the DT880 (250ohm), LCD-2, HD650 but still picked the 600s

880 was too bright and had thin mids, LCD-2 was great but uncomfortable & heavy, not to mentioned its pricetag, HD650 was abit slow/draggy for rock/metal but the bass was engaging

Wad amps are you guys using to drive the 600s?? Im not sure if im driving them to their full SQ potential, although i got them to a high volume easily with the 3 SS amps i have atm, namely the Stepdance, uDAC-2 and Accuphase E-207

Read around the forums, from the bits of comments i gathered, supposedly a tube amp would be a better match for 600

I use it with the mamba d4 and the Sr71a and it drives it beautifully at 12:00 position. High gain for D4 and medium gain for the SR71A. I've alos enjoyed the HD600 with the Little Dot3 with upgraded mullard 8161 tubes. For the past two weeks, it also sings with the Woo 6 that I just picked up recently. They are absolutely great phones. Enjoy yours. I have not owned the Matrix Mstage but I heard that it is a great ss amp and is reasonably priced. Wait for a used one in the FS forums.

From the brief audition, it probably would be slightly warm, mainly because of its bass and rich mids...

Agreed that its a pair of great phones! works wonderfully with the 3 amps i have...thinking of getting an extra tube amp for it in the future

whats the biggest change when combined with the Woo6?

I would match it with the WA3, as its an otl. Senns are 300ohm
But it of course depends on your other headphones. I'm sure the WA6 can make it sound great as well smily_headphones1.gif

I did not enjoy my HD600's on LittleDot MKIII (CV4010). I vastly prefer these on a good SS amp, AMB m3 made these phones sing unEQ-ed like no other amp I've head (I have no experience with high-end stuff, only <500$ mid-fi gear )

New HD600 owner checking in!

Just purchased them an hour ago.

They are sooooo different from my HF-2s!

In a good way of course, I think.

Comparing them to my ES5s... I have gained a massive soundstage.

Let the burn in begin.

Now to put together the proper desktop rig for it and the HF-2s...

Ever since i gotten my HD600 last week, my ES5 have not been getting much listening time! haha!

I finally had a chance to listen to the HD800 and LCD-2 (rev.2) this past week. I like the HD600 more.

I also decided that the HD650 is too muddy sounding for my tastes and sent them back to J&R. I'm keeping the 600's!

And on that note, I can admit that I've been giving my new pair of HD 600 more head time than my HD 800.

man, i had wanted to audition the HD800 too, but tried quite a number of headphones/iems already, so felt embarassed to ask the salesman to take out the hd800, haha

i did however auditioned lcd-2 (2nd rev) & 650 with 600 too, but decided i also prefer the 600 more and got them eventually!

enjoy your HD600!

Yeah, I was in the store for a couple of hours, but the manager was very accommodating.

I also listened to the Grado GS-1000i and HD650 - all 4 with a Music Hall CD player and Burson amp. I liked the LCD-2 the best by the slimmest of margins over the HD800. I also thought the LCD-2 was the closest in sound quality to the HD650 but was a little brighter. I really liked the LCD-2 a lot, but like someone else mentioned above, it was heavy and uncomfortable. Also, I still craved a little more treble volume (not extension), hence my deciding on the HD600.

Just replaced my squishy old pads last night after a few days the new ones have been sitting in the envelope. I was getting the jones for the HD800 but now I think the new pads killed it. Good thing I didn't break the bank to order one with the pads!

What's the best way of getting a pair of HD600s in Aus?

FS forum?

And which one is the less bright version? I am being rather lazy with the search function I admit, I'm sure you guys know it by heart... tongue_smile.gif

I think there is an ebay store in AU that still stocks the hd600 for a good price

I see nothing under 300. A hundred bucks less for a second hair sounds reasonable

Or do they have quality issues?
