Replacement cable came. Can't wait to try these again balanced from the speaker amp. It sounded great the first time for five minutes until I experienced a short somewhere. It took over 3 weeks for the replacement to arrive from Turkey

For Xduoo T-01 vs Aune T1, I think T-01 win except for the lack of energy in fast song. T-01 more to relax songs. T1 more energetic but might become too thin. And T-01 resolve the sharp cymbal sound but have to sacrifice the music energy in metal, rock, and symphonic metal. Too bad no RCA cable to combine these both... Yulong U100, ouch... Sound worst among those 3. Haha...

Running out of the speaker terminals of the Topping TP60. Everything is improved somewhat. The bass is much improved, it sounds more open, is cleaner sounding and most importantly the graininess I mentioned a while back know is mostly gone. HD600s without grain wow

Question is; placebo or not?

Are you asking me? If so its not placebo, the changes are noticeable going from one to the other and I'm actually using the speaker amp to drive them now rather than the headphone amp previously. Different amps have a different sound. I had noticeable differences (even more so) as well going from headphone amp to speaker amp with the HE500s.

Just received my HD600s last night; I upgraded from the HD-555s, which I have had for seven years.

I spent all of last night doing side-by-side tests between the 600 and 555s, and it was incredible how "unclear" the 555s sounded next to the 600s, even when they seemed to sound great to me for so long. Right now I am running them out of my X-Fi Xtreme Music sound card on my PC; I plan to get the Schiit entry stack (Vali/Modi) in the near future.

One thing that really stood out to me was the bass frequency response. During my research, I have heard a lot of people talk about how the 600s have a very flat bass frequency response, but I feel as though they do quite well, even on songs with heavy electronic bass. Perhaps the HD-555s are also considered to have a weak bass response, and since that is what I am used to, the response on the 600s feels comfortable.

Either way, my only complaint at this time is that my 600s are not perfectly molded to the shape of my head as my 555s are :)

The HD600s are weaker on bass but thats because most other cans are tuned to be bass heavy
post #5038 of 9258

Has anyone here had experience with HD600 + Bifrost and Modi? I assume Modi and ODAC have little if any difference and I'm wondering if the $420 difference is justified or not. Not on a heavy budget but I don't want to spend as much as possible. Plan to go with HD600 + Bottlehead Crack + DAC of choice.
Suggestions? I'm open to more than the two/three I've listed.

Also, there's no accounting for listener-preference.  I remember when a fellow Head-fier demoed my HD600's at a meet he said that they were "very-bassy" and "good for hip-hop".

It is indeed bassy IMO if properly driven. Even for Because You Loved Me by Celine Dion, just by connecting to my cheapo Aune T1 I can feel the bass strength, but in a good way. But with Xduoo TA-01, the music become more romantic, relaxing bass... Some say V-moda 100 is a good bass oriented can, well they are overly bass to my ears. :basshead:
